Check out the lap charts from the end of the first two 450 races this season.

A1

STL

Now here's the end of the Las Vegas main in '19.

The riders in squares are lapped riders. There's been a lot made about the strength of the field, and I think this is a pretty good indicator. Only six lapped riders at St. Louis (and a couple that dropped out). Eight lapped riders (and no dropouts) at A1. Compare that to Vegas, where Eli lapped half the field. Sure, it's early, and injuries haven't become a huge factor, but it is something that I'm finding interesting. The depth is there.

I can't find the timing on Las Vegas 2019, but in STL Roczen was within a couple seconds of lapping Freize, but then he would have had to gain about 17 seconds to lap Deano in 15th place. I would bet if Tomac in Vegas would have gained 17 more seconds, he would have lapped several more riders.

Not sure if how I worded that makes sense? But it should attest to the strength of the top 15 riders, no slouches in them at all

What's even more mind blowing is , look at the track designs from the 90's to mid 2000's. Very peaked out and extremely technical. On bikes that are supposed to be harder to ride. AND.......most of them were blue grooved / slick as hell. Figure that one out. I'm kind of hoping that dirt works starts leaning towards making slow / more technical tracks again. Me personally.....I think it's a lot safer , and really let's the cream rise to the top , in the skill dept.

13 of the top 15 finishing 450 riders in St Louis were past champions in the 250 class. The two guys on your left and right on the gate have a number one plate on their wall and are used to only winning their whole lives.
