Same here. We aren't NASCAR yet. Let them earn the number every year. I am tired of seeing single digit numbers making one and 2 race appearences just because they USE to be somebody.

yeah... its really lame.

It used to be exciting to see the riders with their new numbers every season. I dont know why the AMA are catering to the "casual" observer when any real fan never had a problem understanding who was who even if their number was different in MX vs SX.

The permanent numbering system is garbage. I personally feel there have been a lot of guys that have kept their ride because they have that low permanent number, when in reality their earned digit for the last season was much lower. Its like a constant reminder of how good you did last year. I loved that about the sport.

Make the champs run the #1 and lets be done with this shit.

I like the numbering system as it is with the exception that championships earned in the 125/250 lites MX2 class shouldn't be included in this rule. The #'s 2 -10 should be reserved for the 450 class supercross and national champions. If the AMA wants to throw a bone to the lights class then give them an option for any other number above 10. Any number below 10 and not claimed by a past 450 champion should be given out on a yearly basis to the 450 rider with the highest sx/mx ranking from the previous year.

Permanent numbers would make more sense if people actually knew of mx. Other then 4 and 199, mx numbers dont really matter to anyone, outside of the sport.
