I thought this was pretty cool. Some guys from a BMX group recreated the bike, looked up the wheelie kid (Mark Mandeville) and handed it to him on the street in Capo beach where the wheelie was filmed. Good stuff !

Flip flops? 🩴 Always wondered where that was shot. Thought it was somewhere around P.V.
Really cool. Thanks.

So awesome! I've known Mark many years, but didn't know he was the wheelie kid until Faye Campbell connected the dots for Todd Huffman's "On Any Sunday" celebration.

I lived two streets over from that till I was about 11. Tried replicating that wheelie from age 9-11 haha my dad actually rode that field a lot they’re riding in when he was a kid!

Cool thread! I just love this film.
Kid can ride- I forgot this scene and always remembered Wardy's wheelie more but this is as cool or better even.

I was crap a wheelies and also natural balance on bike and skills. Even tried a Trails riding bike and really sucked at it.

I had the balls to go reasonably fast and could jump quite well - but remember there were certain kids who were smaller and alot faster who could really balance a bike well and do the wheelies n' stuff. Sure it helped them and really helped them understand the bike and how you balance it etc.

I still not worked it out and probably never will! ahahhaBlink

Was the lad doing the impressive wheelie a racer? If he was bet he may have done good.

I could wheelie like a unicycle when I was a kid. Can't wheelie a dirt bike to save my life.

On Any Sunday was the driving force for me to wheelie all the time. Down streets, around corners, anytime I wanted. Like Capmoto, not so comfortable on a dirt bike.

Friggin awesome!

I had that same bike and wasn’t too shabby at wheelies on it although mine were sitting down much like the opener of Joe Kid on a Stingray

Wheelies on bicycles carried over to,dirt bikes in my twenties and at 53 I can still wheelie most bicycles as well as my dirt scooter

Fun times!

I can't wheelie to save my life. I have a friend who can wheelie up to a stop sign, stop, then continue down the road without ever putting his front tire down. Shocked

Went last night to see it at a theater here in Michigan. It was an hour and a half away, wife thought I was crazy to go that far to see a movie that is 50 years old and that I own on DVD. I’ve probably watched it about 30 times. It was absolutely worth the drive and limited sleep on a work night. Two hundred seat theater and it was pretty full. Such a cool movie and was great on the big screen.

I can do “ok” high speed ones on a motorcycle but have never figured out slow speed ones. I can do slow ones with 2 back wheels, but can’t seem to transfer that to a bike. Happy hour wheelie contest at Ocotllo

Jeff was doing wheelies on his BMX bike as well. And without flip-flops
