Quite some fuss about the Irish selection. Turns out former team manager McCullough resigned because of the interference of the MCUI. McCullough wanted to select Martin Barr (obviously, he's been around the selection since 2005), but the MCUI would have none of it in favor of Jake Sheridan.

McCullough's selection would've been Barr in MXGP, Meara in MX2 and Edmonds in Open.

Farrelly's (or in fact, MCUI's) selection is Meara in MXGP, Sheridan in MX2 and Edmonds in Open with McCormick as backup-rider.

Nothing against Sheridan as it's not his "fault" he's selected, but everyone knows and has seen the results of the past months in the British nationals. Aswell Barr as McCormick are clearly better and faster than Sheridan.

Let me introduce you to our country's "North vs South" mindset. As you say there is a clear and obvious team to select based solely on merit, but the MCUI are more concerned with having the Southern portion of our Island represented thus the fallout. I hope Jake has a great trip but it's definitely not the team we should be sending to compete.

Yes it would be like North & South Korea sending a joint Team. 2 separate countries but one island. Unfortunately on this occasion politics got involved & Irelands best rider of the last 10 years got dropped because he was born in the north part of the Island! It’s embarrassing 🙈

Australia was initially expected to field Hunter and Jett Lawrence, however, with GP regular Jed Beaton due to ride MX2, sources suggest the Lawrences won’t step up to the 450 for a one-off outing. Instead, Mitch Evans could be the ideal candidate if fit, as well as Wilson Todd or Bailey Malkiewicz – all of those riders based in Europe.

Looks like Iceland will be making the journey as usual! They’re team got announced a few days back, Reynisson who has ridden some EMX and British Championship in the past with two younger guys. Always cool to see them there.

Sounds like Australia won't be sending a team. Lawrence brother's aren't going, so Jed Beaton decided to pull out and wait for 2022.

And lastly, while the Unadilla National is typically where the Team USA roster for the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations is announced, the 2021 roster was bumped to today. But now, as Davey Coombs explained in Racerhead #34 yesterday, Mike Pelletier of the AMA said the announcement would instead come several weeks from now at the Fox Raceway 2 National at Fox Raceway at Pala on September 4.

I wonder what the hold up is. If the race is canceled then it’s canceled. We all know who’s most likely on the team. I feel like they’re just trying to avoid the issue of riders saying no and fans being upset with them

Team Canada

MXGP - Dylan Wright
MX2 - Jacob Piccolo
OPEN - Tyler Medaglia

Team Manager: Carl Bastedo

MXGP was originally Jess Pettis, but he broke 3 vertebrae's and his sternum.

Still a pretty strong team for us.

We'll be pitting out of the Italian Migliori GasGas team's setup.

Edit: Tyler Medaglia is also going to represent Canada at the ISDE.

Disappointing for Australia. We have riders equally as capable currently in Australia but logistically probably not viable to travel and have competitive machinery available. With Duffy, Clout, Webster, Metcalfe, Waters etc etc world class riders

Sweden has announced their team:

MX2: Isak Gifting
MXGP: Alvin Östlund
OPEN: Anton Gole

Weak card definitely Gole. While he can match Östlund in the Swedish championship he can't even come close to him in the GPs. Freddie Norén would have been better of course but with no team and injuries it was not really possible anyway. Still pretty good and can get a top 10 overall if Gole can get some decent results. Gifting has the ability to pull out surprise rides and is starting to get going now after an injury filled first half of the season.

That's too bad. It sounds like it was not something that the Lawrence's had control over. Hunter was being interviewed after the race and said that he was looking forward to going with his brother.

I know that a lot of the OEMs don't want to commit to the MXoN for one reason or another (costs/ the team manager/etc), but maybe they should start to build this event into their budget annually for two riders. If it doesn't work out with the rider in a particular year, they just save the money for another time. It's a marketing expense right?

Don't shoot the messenger:

It’s rumoured that with the recent increase in Covid-19 cases in North America and Europe that the USA will announce soon that will not be sending a team to Italy.

What a bunch of garbage. I thought getting the vaccine was supposed to bring things back to normal. We are at what, 70% vaccinated and they’re still gonna use this excuse?

This would be a farce.

InFront decided to keep the usual date at the end of September so the USA would defintely come over to race (although not in words). And now, while most of the title contenders won't race because of the bad timing, USA would withdraw.

We're right around 50% full vaccinated. Need over 70% for herd immunity but with the delta variant I bet its higher. The more people get vaccinated sooner, the sooner we'll be done with this crap.

I don't think we're quite to 70% total with 1 dose yet... But it's a statistically significant majority. The outlier is youth.

Per the Mayo Clinic vaccine tracker, we are over 80% of age 40+ and over 70% of age 25+. It's 58% of ages 18 to 24 and then only 17% of 17 and under.

It would be a shame if COVID trashes another MXoN... On paper, it seems the increasingly vaccinated population and improved outcomes of cases would be enough to keep going.
