I like that Ferrandis picked 14. Keep the tradition going of really smooth riders running it.

Besides Windham's Suzuki years, I think this is the first time 14 hasn't been on a Honda since Career numbers started.

Concerning the 14 and Honda, you're correct.

Personally, I would have loved to see Ferrandis take the 13 as his career number like his fellow countrymen Tortelli.

Either way, I'm pumped to see the 13 out there again.

I guess Jett is a for-sure upgrade in '20.

Just FYI:
-Permanent numbers are earned by winning a Supercross or Motocross title in either class, or finishing top 10 in points for the year.

-Permanent numbers may not be triple digits, and single digit numbers are reserved for national champions.

-Riders are allowed to change their permanent number once if they met the requirements to earn a permanent number again.

-Riders must earn 25 points in a year to keep the number for next season. Riders who fail to meet this requirement due to extenuating circumstances may petition the AMA to keep the number for another year.

-A rider who meets this requirement, but has no plans of racing next year, may forgo the right to keep the number.

-Riders who have not earned a permanent number will be assigned a national number based on season points, and starting with the lowest available two digit number.

-The rider who earns #13 has the option to skip it and take the next lowest number instead.

-Riders who do not have an AMA license (IE, raced Supercross with an FIM license) are not eligible for national numbers.

-Riders who earn a national number cannot opt to run a three digit number instead.

-Defending champions must wear #1.

How the hell did Austin Forkner end up with 52? Was it because he missed most of the season SX and Outdoors?

I was just thinking that after seeing his name, surely you can’t have a 2 digit pro number and race amateurs?

Yeah, me too! I’m glad Nichols took it. I hope he can keep it. It still blows my mind that after his SX and MX season results last year he still doesn’t have a career number.

You don't get to keep the points you score if you race with an international license.

Nichols is really inconsistent. Would really like to see him step it up next year and consistently podium all year.

In theory, Christian Craig shouldn't have a 2 digit number, correct? If the rules actually meant anything anyways...

Question, we never rode SX and missed 7 rounds of the outdoors due to injury. We did however manage to bag 4 precious points in the 450 class. Can we run our current 3 digit number for 2020 of will we get alocated a number due to our 4 points?

Thanks

If you scored a top 100 number, that's what you'll need to run in 2020. If not, you'll be able to run the same triple digit number as this year as long as your rider sends in his licence application in time for his renewal.

I'm pretty certain that numbers are allocated on a first come first served basis. When you fill the application you'll need to list a few numbers in order of preference in case your first choice, second choice, etc. has already been assigned to another rider.

When was the last time 13 was used? I remember Heath Voss running it but has it been used since? Can’t think of anyone off the top of my head but I could be mistaken.

Blake Wharton used it in 2013 and the last person to use it was Jessy Nelson in 2016.

Hell yeah. I think it's silly to give riders the option to skip the number 13.

Would you run it?

Personally, I opt to believe good luck superstitions and conveniently skip bad luck ones. Wink

If I earned it? Yeah! I'm more obsessive compulsive than superstitious. I'm happy for Colt!

I don't like permanent numbers. I understand American corporations and their marketing departments have pushed for that in racing in order to "make it easier to identify/market a rider/driver" but athletes in the best selling sports in the world (NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, MLS, World football) do no use permanent numbers, athletes sell with their names and hats/jerseys/memorabilias are selling whatever the number a players wears.

Numbers should reflect results of previous season, like it was when America Was Great. At least outsiders will know your level, what was your finish the previous year and when you race a class for the first time, you can use your 3-digits number.

Ciancarulo, Tomac, Roczen would sell as much whatever number they use.

We might see him race East coast SX since he tore his ACL in Montreal. Would be cool to see him race Daytona.

I too am curious why Forkner ended up with 52 & why RJ would take 24 as his career number when hes been 31 for years now.

Forkner only raced SX. That's why he has a higher number for 2020. Since he was out for the entire outdoor series and didn't score any points there, that dropped him on the combined overall points list.

You mean the guy who was #36 last year has been #31 for years? He's been running what he has earned since he never had a permanent number until now. Idk what he ran as an amateur, but I bet he just picked the lowest available permanent number.

I want to know why Justin Cooper picked 32. Did he just want to keep it simple and not change it from what he earned, or does 32 have some significance to him?
