Been dying to buy my 3, going on 4 year old a pw50. she loves riding around the yard with me so thinking it's time to pull the trigger. So I email the local big box Yamaha dealer about 30 minutes away. I know retail on these things are 1,499 and have always heard there is very little mark up so I am going into this thinking I could end up paying retail plus freight. So a few hours pass and I get a response back that says 2,049+ tax. Im thinking WTF!! 30% markup above retail? Who pays that shit? So anyway, I email 2 other dealers. The 2nd one didn't have one and refused to price me one even though they were expecting one soon and the 3rd dealer quoted about 1,610+ tax. I'm sure there aren't a ton of guys on here buying pw50s, but if you have what have you seen. I'll drive right passed dealer 1 to go buy from deals 3, which is 2hrs away to get mine. Stupid to think anyone would pay that much above retail. I mean it's not like the pw50 is a new high in demand bike...

I will say this, I'm glad they have a 90 day warranty. As I mentioned in a previous post, it locked up after 15 minutes of my 3 year old putting around the yard. She's 3, you can imagine the lack of WFO riding the first 15 min she had the thing. I picked it up today as Yamaha sent out an entire new top end. I saw the piston and cylinder they removed. Something had to of been in that damn cylinder.
If you're going the training wheels route, I highly recommend safely rides training wheels over any of the bs junk from big suppliers.
I’ve got a 3 year old so I’ve been keeping my eye on craigslist and I’ve maybe came across 3 in the years time i started looking.

For us, showroom new simply made sense. I have 2 toddler boys a couple years apart that will cut their teeth on this bike. Sure, you can find deals on CL if you invest the time to search and check out the bikes in person and kick the tires...but even still... it's ALWAYS a gamble regardless. Zero time for the CL games. 1500 bux is short money in my eye to know the complete mechanical history of the bike. Plus, I'll likely sell this well maintained bike in a few years for $700-900 So in the end, not much of an investment was made to get them started off right.
The starting point.
A used one will serve well. One day on the new one, with a few tip overs , and you won't see much difference. Not to mention the depreciation hit if the kid does not take to riding it.
Bought this bad boy 2.5 years ago for $350. My son used training wheels last year. This year it fits him perfectly and I took the training wheels off. These things don't have much that will go wrong with them. When I bought this it had sat for a few years. I cleaned the carb, flushed the gas and oil and did some general maintenance stuff. It's been running great for over 2 years. Next year he will move up to a crf or KTM 50.
