Been dying to buy my 3, going on 4 year old a pw50. she loves riding around the yard with me so thinking it's time to pull the trigger. So I email the local big box Yamaha dealer about 30 minutes away. I know retail on these things are 1,499 and have always heard there is very little mark up so I am going into this thinking I could end up paying retail plus freight. So a few hours pass and I get a response back that says 2,049+ tax. Im thinking WTF!! 30% markup above retail? Who pays that shit? So anyway, I email 2 other dealers. The 2nd one didn't have one and refused to price me one even though they were expecting one soon and the 3rd dealer quoted about 1,610+ tax. I'm sure there aren't a ton of guys on here buying pw50s, but if you have what have you seen. I'll drive right passed dealer 1 to go buy from deals 3, which is 2hrs away to get mine. Stupid to think anyone would pay that much above retail. I mean it's not like the pw50 is a new high in demand bike...

I paid $1200 in 2012. My friend was the sales manager and showed me they made $60. I'm sure they have gone up slightly.

extremely low markup bike. like, $50-100 if they sell it at retail, hence the nonsense fees. i OTD'd last year for $1700. unless you know someone, thats a good deal. $1800-1900 is more common. Shops adding on ludicrous fees is more and more common.

Have you considered used? She will outgrow it in a couple of years and then you can sell it for not much worse than what you paid to the next dad with a youngun.

I paid 1609 otd for an 18 from Rick roush Motorsports in Medina Ohio a few weeks ago. I had a quote of 1500 otd from Honda east in Toledo but didn't care to drive that far over 100.

I will say this, I'm glad they have a 90 day warranty. As I mentioned in a previous post, it locked up after 15 minutes of my 3 year old putting around the yard. She's 3, you can imagine the lack of WFO riding the first 15 min she had the thing. I picked it up today as Yamaha sent out an entire new top end. I saw the piston and cylinder they removed. Something had to of been in that damn cylinder.

Ps, even with my bad luck I still say it's worth the extra to buy brand new. I did this only so I knew I had an unmolested bike for her.

If you're going the training wheels route, I highly recommend safely rides training wheels over any of the bs junk from big suppliers.

They are hard to find right now so it makes it a little hard to find a bargain. I just got one two days ago and paid $1599 otd. I know there are dealers that wont go that low on them. After sales tax and such that is not much profit.

Have a spare complete training wheel on hand at all times. I must have bought 3 sets last year because of the bearings wearing out.

I’m not too familiar with the PW50 world but do people hang on to these things forever or do they make just enough supply for the demand?

I’ve got a 3 year old so I’ve been keeping my eye on craigslist and I’ve maybe came across 3 in the years time i started looking.

Can’t believe the prices here! Bought one for my granddaughter for like $450 in great shape! Unless financing is an issue, I’d go with Craigslist or Bikefinds and pay 1/3 the price.

Yep, I bought a used one 5yrs ago 300.00. Put a top end in it a yr ago. It's been used two kids, cousins and friends kids. I never ran training wheels but I have a wide track that's flat with no rocks, big bushes or trees for them to crash into.

They are all over FB marketplace. Not hard to find a clean one for under $600.

I made my kid learn to ride a bicycle well without training wheels before I let him on his PW.

I bought an 03 pw used in 04 for $650. I sold it last year in 2 hours on my wife's Facebook account for 650 dollars. I looked into training wheels when I first purchased the bike but was advised not to. Without wheels at least they will fall over, with them they could ride into something head on. I never put any on after that conversation .

I paid $1550 with taxes/fees for my 2015 in August of that same year. I shopped/checked every dealer in my area and that was the best that could be had for exactly the same reasons as previously stated.

For us, showroom new simply made sense. I have 2 toddler boys a couple years apart that will cut their teeth on this bike. Sure, you can find deals on CL if you invest the time to search and check out the bikes in person and kick the tires...but even still... it's ALWAYS a gamble regardless. Zero time for the CL games. 1500 bux is short money in my eye to know the complete mechanical history of the bike. Plus, I'll likely sell this well maintained bike in a few years for $700-900 So in the end, not much of an investment was made to get them started off right.

Not much to go wrong on a PW 50. I used to buy up every neglected one I could. Pulled in three of them from my local dealers service department that were left for dead. I gave him $100 each for them. I had less than $500 total in each of them. All were tidied up , and ran well. Before and after of an '05. Under $500 total invested, including purchase price.

Still have a like new '06, under 5 hours total run time. Gave $600 for it about five years ago. Thinking of selling it, as it just sits.

Gave $120 for this '87 pile. Had about $550 total in it. After tidy up.

The starting point.

A used one will serve well. One day on the new one, with a few tip overs , and you won't see much difference. Not to mention the depreciation hit if the kid does not take to riding it.

Took a beating on this. Got a deal at $1300 OTD. Was lucky to get $900 on the resale. Had about three hours on it, if that. Not to mention the extra's that were added. Kid just did not like riding.

The training wheels opinions are just that. opinions. My daughter turned 3 a couple weeks ago. All she asked for was her own real dirt bike. This crap is just for fun. She couldn't ride it without training sooooo, that's not fun. Like I mentioned, some training wheels are a dangerous joke. (Moose, fly). The ones I put on hers are totally adjustable, air inthe tires, and offer no chance of falling over. If we "develop bad habits". I don't give a damn. We'll have fun n cross those bridges at a later date.

Bought this bad boy 2.5 years ago for $350. My son used training wheels last year. This year it fits him perfectly and I took the training wheels off. These things don't have much that will go wrong with them. When I bought this it had sat for a few years. I cleaned the carb, flushed the gas and oil and did some general maintenance stuff. It's been running great for over 2 years. Next year he will move up to a crf or KTM 50.

I hardly ever see them on FB or Craigslist and if I do they are gone in 48hrs or less. I was 2nd to call on the last one, it was an 04 and they wanted $650 and it needed some love. Needless to say I wasn't fast enough

its even worse in canada, manitoba specially, i looked for over 6months with money on stand by for it. I can't get myself to buy an 1999 or 2002 pw50 for 1000$ , there was one for sale not long ago, 1300$ and it was an 2007.
