I would think their automobile division would be separate from their motorcycle division.

I never even knew Suzuki built cars until the 80's when the first Samurai's appeared.

I remember some talk about volkswagen buying them because of them being a top seller in some 3rd world markets (since volks is after becoming the largest unit seller in the world) If that went through i wouldn't see that happening but maybe a withdrawl from cars in the american market?

Wow, did Suzuki not offer you a full factory ride Dungey style or something. How could "possibly" losing Suzuki be a good thing. Or are you just posing as the internet tough guy.

Wonder if JS7 is taking this into consideration for 2013? Can't race for free forever.

Suzuki automobiles have always been a half assed effort in the US. And helping to kill off the 125 class here in the states hasn't done their motocross effort any favors either. No Suzuki MX minicycles since 1980 unless you want to count the ill fated Kawi marriage and no change to the 85 since forever, no 125.....you have a lot of people who hardly know Suzuki exists when they reach the 250F class.

KTM is killing them all.

the problem is the whole off road market is still shrinking, KTM may be getting more market share but the whole area is still getting smaller, that is the real problem,

I am pretty sure Stewart is gonna be fine. Like the other person said I'm sure their cars are seperate from their motorcycles. And from what I gathered in that article it sounds like only in the u.s. or norty America they will stop selling Suzuki whic is also still seperate from say Japan or from other countries. I work for general motors and in meetings many times they have explained us how each region or division is seperate from each other.

I guess I don't understand the love for these large corporations. If they were producing better products they would be just fine.

I say Suzuki especially because the MX OEMs today are doing more harm for the sport than good. An `~$8k product that is junk after a year of hard riding - that'll keep bikes moving out the door... Not to mention noise pollution and safety issues.

If the manufacturers are hurting a lot of the responsibility is on their shoulders - no tears from me.

Doesn't help the motocrooss industry with prices of bikes near 10k.

I bought a new '99 Esteem and it just turned 391,000 on the same motor etc. Being in sales I remember saying my long term goal was 250,000. Now my goal is to get to the end of this year until I retire. Nothing major except a couple months ago I had to slam on the brakes and the front cross member cracked. They wanted $420 on line but the owner of the dealership gave it to me for $220. That part was a recall part, 12 years and/or 180,000 miles. I only missed the year by one! The mileage a whole different story. I brag this car up, it has been great.

Bitching about price is one thing, but if the OEMs stop producing a product we're fucked. Guess what, whether or not you're a hard core '05 CR250 rider that can't stand four strokes, everyone benefits from the OEMs selling bikes. If production were to stop can you imagine what would happen? The OEMs doing more harm than good? Most of them are still updating the bikes every year and redesigning them every few. If everyone stopped selling bikes tomorrow in a couple years you would be paying 4 grand for that clapped out ten year old beater instead of less than the $2,000 you pay for the same 5-7 year old bike today. What if the manufacturers had said fuck it in '90? Are you happy with major evolution of bikes stopping? Maybe you would rather pay 12,000 for a Service Honda, although they would probably raise prices if they were the only show in town.

I understand completely. However, it's no mystery to me that this sport is on its way out the door. If the failure of an OEM can shock the others into making some changes the inevitable could be prolonged. Either way my pillow is dry.

It was predicted Apple Computer to go out of business in 1994 by one of these lists. It's an opinion. I don't think Suzuki is going anywhere unless someone steps up and buys the whole lot. Suzuki has been around a long time.

Do you guys not realize the volume of vehicles that Suzuki sells in Asia, particularly India? shit tons, that's how much.
The article specifically said North America.

It's not just motorcycles. How about general aviation? Dying off. Expensive as all hell compared to just a generation or two ago. Student pilot starts waaaaaaay down. Certificates issued waaaaaaaaaay down. I'm an airline pilot who came up the civilian route, through general aviation. I'm not as close to it as I once was, but looking at it today is a shock.

Those are merely two areas I'm familiar with. I imagine it's pretty much the same thing no matter what you look at. But hey, at least we all have equal access to fifty zillion channels of cheap TV, and computers. At least until we are laid off.
