This has ALWAYS happened, give an inch and they take a mile. This isn't surprising at all.

Needs electronic smog equipment strapped to it to make sure the battery doesn’t leak 😂 California wants ALL of their money probably want Honda to pay some millions of dollar homologation fees.

It’s not about ICE’s. It’s about control. Some people in some states just want public land to sit there, with no humans on it. While we all sit in our 500 square foot apartments playing virtual reality bullshit in the METAverse

If it's FUN California will ban it.

Isn't there some homologation process the state requires for green sticker approval? $$$$
Did the manufacturer not do it? Thinking it's an ev not needed? Basically state didn't get it's money.

I think it's the lack of a VIN combined with previous rules that restricted access to registered OHV's only. Can't register a bike without a VIN. Unless Honda gave that bike a VIN with a 3 or C in 8th digit to avoid the hassle, which would be hilarious.

Parks like Carnegie are bending the rules and letting no VIN bikes in.

Did the Alta's come with VINs? Curious what they put in the 8th digit if they did.

I know folks are leaning on this being a VIN issue, but the original comment was "We were just told by the state of California that these bikes do not meet California emissions standards". I guess it is possible it is a procedural issue, but you would think the reasoning would not be labeled as an emissions standards issue.

A wise man on Vital once said "It doesn't matter much, they are making sure there is no place to ride anyway. I know everyone thinks e-bikes are going to be the saving grace, but if you think folks are not going to find excuses to complain about / ban that as well, you are fooling yourself. It all goes back to the comment I am responding to, everything is going to be banned (sorry CA folks, it all seems to start there)"

who going to check? I have ridden dirt bikes on public moto trails in many different states, including California, and never been stopped and had my bike inspected while out riding.

Having lived in Ca. for 63 years now I think the wise move is to turn off social media, don't watch the news, and go do whatever you've been doing for the last however many years, fuck it. So it's ok to walk into Target and waltz out with hundreds of dollars worth of shit and not one employee or cop will give a shit ? But we're supposed to follow all these other piddly ass laws and not do this or that ? Yeah..... how about fuck you. Catch me assholes....

You're going off a Facebook post.

The bike doesn't have a VIN, you need a VIN to register a bike, and only registered bikes can be ridden on most public lands. It's that simple.

Don’t go to Hollister then. Check everyone everywhere. I was riding with a spark arrestor and registration. Spark arrestor was stamped and everything, didn’t allow a stick to go down it or whatever, and they still tried to argue that it wasn’t usfs approved and anyone can just stamp it on there. Then said they would let me “pass” today because I was trying to do the right thing.

Basically it wasn’t a pro circuit or a FMF so they assumed it was fake.

Other places are less strict, except pismo though they only care about the sticker, but man they crack down for going 5 mph over the speed limit on the beach. Friend got a $1200 ticket because “low visibility and speeding without headlights on” going 5mph over the speed on a weekday, it wasn’t low visibility you could see over a mile away. those 2 parks are power trip zones.

From the state that arrested a lone surfer in the water during the "pandemic", and backfilled a skatepark with sand.

$5 will get you $20 someone it's the classic disconnect between CARB and the DMV and someone doesn't have this on a list.

You spend enough time riding public land in CA you're gonna get rolled by a state park ranger, BLM, CHP.

Funny thing is they don't need a reason to stop you. Routine is enough cause and if you think they wont impound your shit... think again.

I thought that no bike that size (equivalent to 50cc and under) comes with a title. You get a Country of Origin paper with it. I got one with an CR50 I bought years ago.

With California being the hub of our sport this makes next to zero sense to me, there’s a lot of revenue being produced from bike sales, ticket sales, merchandise, yet there is one thing California hates more then they love money. And that’s your freedom 😂

Is there anything more official than a facebook post on this?

There are no emissions, so i don't understand how it can't meet emission standards...doesn't seem like we are getting the whole story here...like others mentioned, it could be a technicality with the VIN number or something...Or...it is California...so I wouldn't be surprised at all that they won't allow a zero emission bike, for exceeding the emission standards...they are THAT ridiculous there...
