I had someone tell me this was already a done deal, but this MXA interview with J-Bone seems to confirm it now.

http://motocrossactionmag.com/home-page/interview-of-the-week-jeremy-al…

@MXA: Is it true that Nicoletti will race 250 Supercross in 2017?

"Yes. We actually appealed to have him race 250 Supercross, and it worked. We’re looking at him riding the 250 indoors. He likes the idea. Looking back on his decision to move up to 450 Supercross a few years ago, I can’t help but laugh at him. Take his buddy, Jeremy Martin, as an example. Jeremy had a chance to either move up [to the 450 class] or stay back. I asked him, “Why wouldn’t you stay back and try to win a championship?” There’s no reason to jump up, unless it’s a ride like the one he thought he was going to get with RCH. If it’s a good deal then it makes sense. There’s no reason to jump up a class, especially when there aren’t any rides available. Anyway, Phil moved himself up for a ride with the Allan Brown TiLube Yamaha team years ago. Looking back at his results, he only raced 15 Supercrosses total on a 250. Most people wouldn’t move up. He needs more experience riding Supercross in the 250 class. I’m very glad they [the AMA] let him win the appeal, and I hope he can get on the podium and win races. Maybe this will help him get better in Supercross, because that’s really where the money is made in this sport."

J-Bone also basically confirms that Matt B is the other 250 guy.

@MXA: Do you have your other 250 rider set in stone yet?

"It’s not officially done, but it’s looking like it will be Matt Bisceglia. There’s a pretty good list of guys available. I would say the pick we could have had if things [with Suzuki] were figured out months ago might have been different, but I’m happy with the guys we have on the list. Matt Bisceglia makes the most sense, because he rode for Suzuki this year. Yoshimura is going to handle the 250 program, and we’re going to do the 450 stuff. Yoshimura is still going to do things with RCH, too. Hopefully we can all share information and work together in order to make Suzuki the best bike, which already won the 450 National Championship."

How do you think Phil will do?
Hopefully he adapts back to the 250 okay and can keep getting the great starts he is known for. I think podiums would be the goal for Phil. Who knows though. If he ends up racing a Martin brother, that may just drive him to a win. I know he won't want to lose to either of those two! Grinning

I swear, if it was anyone but Philthy I wouldn't be on board, but I'm certainly intrigued to see what he will do jumping back on the small bike.

Hope he does well. I wonder how it will affect the fill-in rider situation?

I like Phil, but I have to say he'll get ruined. These kids are awful fast...I think he does better if he stays on the 450.

He fills-in on whatever coast he doesn't race on, and Matt does that duty for the opposite coast. Then Phil moves to a 450 for outdoors.

Kyle Chisholm was on Twitter last night talking about it and apparently he's been denied to move back on a 250 multiple times and said he's lost good rides because of that. He said he's filed for an appeal again for the upcoming season. I think they created a problem by allowing Phil to move back and we will see several riders try and do the same.

I'm glad for him, I think it's logical and a good move but ffs, once again, the rules and application of in this sport are fucking retarded.

Exactly.
I'm sure they realized that there would be more guys wanting to do the same thing. They defenetly opened a can of worms with this one....

A JGR motor in a 250f will be rocket ship! I remember Tedesco moved back down to ride on Pro Circuit at the end of his career outdoors.

Yeah what are the chances he would be allowed to do this if he didn't have a JGR ride?

As it mentions in the article quoted and multiple posts so far, JGR will not be developing and building the RM-Z250 engines. They will focus on their 450 effort while Yoshimura takes care of the 250 effort.

I'm thinking Yoshimura and Suzuki were bending the AMA's ear too.

Why did he have to appeal? He never pointed out, he never won a race. I don't remember ever seeing a rule that would affect him, Chisolm has a permanent number but that's the only difference I can see. I'm confused on why either can't race 250.

When you finish top 20 in the 450 class in a Supercross 450 season it makes you ineligible to move back to the 250 regional series... At least, I think that's the rule... It's something points based for 450..

Yeah, I found it.I think top 20 is kind of BS, top 10 maybe. Some guy who got 15th overall in 450 is not going to step down and be cherrypicking.

g. Riders finishing inside the top 20 of the
450SX class points in 2013 or 2014 will not be eligible to ride the 250SX class.
h.
Riders that have self
-advanced themselves to the 450SX
class that wish to return to the 250SX class may appeal
their eligibility to the AMA. This appeal must be submitted
to the AMA in writing and can take up to
30 days for the
final hearing. All decisions of the appeals panel are final.

Won't be a JGR motor, the 250 team is really Yosh with JGR graphics in the JGR truck...yosh is doing all the motor work.

They let Phil drop down, but didn't let Josh Hansen run #100. Whoever TF is in charge of making these decisions picks strange things to piss backward on.

I don't feel that it's "crazy" that he's allowed to go back down as I don't think he will be dominating the class, but can you really say with a straight face that JGR didn't have any pull in this decision?

Yep, doesn't seem like it was a smart move.

Phil has all the experience now, it's not fair to the field
