I had a 490 with that horrible setup, and the only thing I felt safe on was hillclimbs. Center of gravity still too high, plus, they were tubs of shit...Laughing

RBR, My racing bud had an 82 YZ 250 with the radiator on the forks while my ride was same year CR 250. Drag racing, he would smoke me on top. Riding his bike was interesting as the thing would rev to an amazingly high rpm and felt like it pulled forever as if it was straight off the road racer. I think the 82 was the first year they put a powervalve on. Luckily, I was smart enough to keep it off the track and only rode it on long dirt roads at a high rate of speed.

1982 was the year they put it into production. This bike is a 1981 Works bike - it has the pre-production mono-shock linkage and powervalve. They went with watercooling in 82 also.

I got to watch the Hurricane ride many times and he and Ryan both have/had the same controlled chaos riding style.
