I've never paid attention to Beta until I was in the hunt for a plated bike in California. I'll only need plates for very short distances but it's a requirement for some of the riding I'll be doing with it. With that said, I wanted the most "motocross" plated bike I could find in CA (300 2-smokes are not an option here)
Obvious choices for me were the KTM/Husky 350 but I was actually hoping for a GasGas version of the 350 EXC-F for '22. I can't wait any longer so I started deciding between the KTM 350 EXC-F and Husky FE 350. My friend just bought a '21 KTM 350 EXC-F and it's very very choked up, so I started looking around.
Luckily I researched Beta and learned this is probably the best plated bike money can buy in CA. The Betas are not choked up like the other bikes. I was also pleasantly surprised that Beta offers more than just a 350 and 500. They offer a 390 and 430 in between their 350 and 500 lineup. All four models have their unique characteristics. I decided on the 390 RR-S being the perfect balance between a nimble 350 and big bore 500. Weight comparison between KTM and Beta? I've heard once you put real knobbies and rim locks on the KTM they are within a couple pounds of each other. Parts availability? No issues with getting parts for either where I live.
The Beta KYB fork upgrade is not currently available due to supply chain issues but I've heard it's not necessary. Supposedly the Sachs forks can be made to work very well so I'm doing research looking for options.
This will be my first Beta so all feedback and suggestions are appreciated. I've heard it's geared very very tall to pass noise regulations on the street, so let me know what you gearing you went with. I'll be doing mostly flowing single track...13-51??
I ordered this bike on top but I'm going to make it look like their Race Edition bike below. Does anyone know where I can get a low profile quick release license plate holder that mounts to the Race Edition rear fender extension?

Got my Sherco 300 a couple days after I sold my husky and can get parts in a day! Your Beta will be a awesome bike though bro
The Shop
Today my friend picked up his 2021 Beta 300rr Race Edition.
Someone suggested this seat to give a little more padding. I don't think I'll need it but haven't been on a long ride with one yet:

Put on a Lectron and have a bike with most reliability possible with the least amount of things to break when you are in BFE?
I recently worked on and rode a 2020 500exc, you’re right they’re definitely choked up.
Congrats and solid choice!
Sweet bike, can't wait to get mine.
Pit Row
On the 500 I swapped the rear fender for the shorter rr version. I have also added a comfort seat (Seat Concepts).
I get all of my part from shopbeatmotorcycle.com out of Reno. Super knowledgeable guys and quick turnaround. You will love your Beta.
Too bad you can't plate a 300, they're a blast on the back roads.
Can you tell me what the ready to ride weights are of a KTM 350 EXC-F with knobbies compared to a 390 RR-S?
Any idea if the FMF FACTORY 4.1 RCT TITANIUM slip on and head pipe shaves weight over the stock exhaust and how much if any?
Any lightweight foot peg suggestions?
I'm a weight savings freak so I'll be looking to shed ounces anywhere I can on the bike.
Sweet bike can you post some closeup photos of how your plate is mounted and your blinkers?
I am currently pool poor at the moment but I have been drooling over these Betas the last year. One day I will pull the trigger. But to pacify myself I took a KLX250 and had Jerry at Four Stroke Works build me a 365cc with a 34mm pumper and along with Clark at Noleen this thing is a ton of fun. Just waiting for my black Dubya USA wheels.
It will work for now.
Two thumbs up from me.
I just used the existing fender flap on the XCW. Drilled holes for the blinkers and license plate holder. I got the blinker kit from Sicass Racing, Pretty simple install. I’ll try to get a close up pic shortly.
I’m not sure if they have kits for Beta or not?

Thanks and congrats on your new machine.
