New Beta on the way....who's got one?

Edited Date/Time 4/29/2021 8:05am
I've never paid attention to Beta until I was in the hunt for a plated bike in California. I'll only need plates for very short distances but it's a requirement for some of the riding I'll be doing with it. With that said, I wanted the most "motocross" plated bike I could find in CA (300 2-smokes are not an option here)

Obvious choices for me were the KTM/Husky 350 but I was actually hoping for a GasGas version of the 350 EXC-F for '22. I can't wait any longer so I started deciding between the KTM 350 EXC-F and Husky FE 350. My friend just bought a '21 KTM 350 EXC-F and it's very very choked up, so I started looking around.

Luckily I researched Beta and learned this is probably the best plated bike money can buy in CA. The Betas are not choked up like the other bikes. I was also pleasantly surprised that Beta offers more than just a 350 and 500. They offer a 390 and 430 in between their 350 and 500 lineup. All four models have their unique characteristics. I decided on the 390 RR-S being the perfect balance between a nimble 350 and big bore 500. Weight comparison between KTM and Beta? I've heard once you put real knobbies and rim locks on the KTM they are within a couple pounds of each other. Parts availability? No issues with getting parts for either where I live.

The Beta KYB fork upgrade is not currently available due to supply chain issues but I've heard it's not necessary. Supposedly the Sachs forks can be made to work very well so I'm doing research looking for options.

This will be my first Beta so all feedback and suggestions are appreciated. I've heard it's geared very very tall to pass noise regulations on the street, so let me know what you gearing you went with. I'll be doing mostly flowing single track...13-51??

I ordered this bike on top but I'm going to make it look like their Race Edition bike below. Does anyone know where I can get a low profile quick release license plate holder that mounts to the Race Edition rear fender extension?

I was going to get a Beta my self but had to wait 3 months for a 300rr.
Got my Sherco 300 a couple days after I sold my husky and can get parts in a day! Your Beta will be a awesome bike though bro

Sick bike. You can plate that bike if you wanted to where you live correct? Does that seat ever bother you for very long rides?

Someone suggested this seat to give a little more padding. I don't think I'll need it but haven't been on a long ride with one yet:

Such a nice bike. For those who might not be aware I believe the 300's are carb'd bikes correct? Meaning no potential fuel pumps/battery/electrical/FI issues to deal with?

Put on a Lectron and have a bike with most reliability possible with the least amount of things to break when you are in BFE?

They’re beautiful machines! One of the guys in the FMAR group rides I do has a 430, another a 500 and they’ve only got good things to say.

I recently worked on and rode a 2020 500exc, you’re right they’re definitely choked up.

Congrats and solid choice!

I believe those are Kenda Washougal II shoes on that thing? Is that the go to off road tire for intermediate to hard pack terrain?

I just got this 2021 500rr-s. I haven’t taken off road yet. I’m thinking a quick release plate holder and narrower turn signals would be great. I’ll be watching this thread for ideas. Aomc.mx seems to carry a decent selection of Beta parts.

Think the Beta race team runs the Washougals, we sell a lot of Triple Fronts paired with the Parker rears for the Vegas area.

I will be swapping to the Race Edition fender extension (not sure what they call that) and will be mounting a plate to it along with some tiny LED blinkers. They aren't legal but it's better than nothing of course...I would think license plate brackets and small LED blinkers would be a popular aftermarket product for these.

Sweet bike, can't wait to get mine.

I have been thinking about putting a deposit down on a 22 300rx. From the sounds of the reviews it’s a great machine that would fit my style.

I recently sold my 2018 300rr and just took delivery of 2021 500rr-s. I will soon be getting a 2021 200rr as well.
On the 500 I swapped the rear fender for the shorter rr version. I have also added a comfort seat (Seat Concepts).
I get all of my part from shopbeatmotorcycle.com out of Reno. Super knowledgeable guys and quick turnaround. You will love your Beta.

I sell all of the Austrian brands and Beta. The EPA Beta's are the least restricted bikes available. My favorite is the 390. Its a long stoke 350 and has lots of low end pulling power. The new open chamber forks on the RR-S work really well too. Its a solid bike and with great support in the US.

The 390 really has my attention. Would love to try one out.

Too bad you can't plate a 300, they're a blast on the back roads.

Literally just got my plate yesterday. But, yes, that is the plan. I also want to do a quick release on the plate so I don't always have to run it. I have some fabricating to do.

Very glad to hear this from you as I did a lot of research on all the bikes and now an unbiased dealer who sells all brands is confirming my findings.

Can you tell me what the ready to ride weights are of a KTM 350 EXC-F with knobbies compared to a 390 RR-S?

Any idea if the FMF FACTORY 4.1 RCT TITANIUM slip on and head pipe shaves weight over the stock exhaust and how much if any?

Any lightweight foot peg suggestions?

I'm a weight savings freak so I'll be looking to shed ounces anywhere I can on the bike.

Please post a photo of what you end up doing....so far I can't find anyone who makes a bracket. Seems like a good aftermarket product to sell.

I was originally going to get a 300 and get it plated in Arizona but every Ranger/Cop in CA is going to F with me when they see a smoker on the road out here. This state is unbelievable. Getting my diesels smog'd is enough headache and I don't need another one so the legitimate plated 390 4-stroke it is...

Sweet bike can you post some closeup photos of how your plate is mounted and your blinkers?

Now that I am 53 I am done with the track, ButI have discovered that in my old slower age my brother and I have been having a blast exploring trails out where he lives in Pahrump, and where I live just below Big Bear on the desert side. Tons of fun stuff.

I am currently pool poor at the moment but I have been drooling over these Betas the last year. One day I will pull the trigger. But to pacify myself I took a KLX250 and had Jerry at Four Stroke Works build me a 365cc with a 34mm pumper and along with Clark at Noleen this thing is a ton of fun. Just waiting for my black Dubya USA wheels.

It will work for now.

I bet that 390 will be great.

I just used the existing fender flap on the XCW. Drilled holes for the blinkers and license plate holder. I got the blinker kit from Sicass Racing, Pretty simple install. I’ll try to get a close up pic shortly.

I’m not sure if they have kits for Beta or not?
