Hey all,

So first time buyer of brand new bike. went with 2019 yz250f. I do know you need to break the bike in first and right when I got home today with the bike I wanted to take it for a little ride. Only put it into 2nd gear and went quarter throttle. Rode around about 5 minutes and did start to smell something funny. Thought maybe just new bike smell burning off some stuff.

But when i got off the bike and it was shut off I noticed out of the exhaust port it was smoking . Wasnt insane ammount but a good steady amount for about 5-7 minutes. Is this something to be concerned about? Called the dealer and they said dont worry but if it keeps smoking after initial hour of breaking in....... call back.

Just wanted to know yalls thoughts.

Thanks

Dont assume the dealer did anything, check all fluids, grease all bearing and check torques on nuts and bolts. If your alrwady feeling uneasy, doing the above will make you feel better and you will be more famialr with your bike, which is good.

It may be assembly grease burning off. Not a problem.

Agree. I have always bought new bikes. I break them in by letting them get good and warm, then putting load on in each gear for about 15min. Don’t wring it out, but a steady solid throttle from low rev to 3/4 (no lugging). After that, let it cool, then ride some laps at the track trying always to just put a good load and not a steady throttle or limiter for the remainder of the day. Bring it home, change the oil and filter, then good to go.

Do the normal grease steering head and linkage when it’s raining outside. :-)
