Being a coach in this sport for many years, I know first hand the biggest battle to be won is that of getting racers to realize they have far more potential than they can see. We had 7 racers improve their best qualifying effort by 20 or more positions in SX last year. These breakthroughs in large part were do to exposing the riders to concrete data proving they are not even close to reaching their full potential.
We have become a sport that believes it is impossible for a back of the pack guy to work his way to the front. It is time racers who have a fire to reach the front, use the doubts and impossibilities of others as wood for their fire. I can prove through measured data from training that 98% of what a racer needs to succeed will come from the racer's effort to challenge their ability to race a dirt bike.

Even though this story is not moto related, it is a great example of how beneficial it can be to use the doubts and impossibilities of others as wood for your fire.
