Having trouble with Joe's 2003 KX125. Runs great, after he does some laps and lets it sit it won't start back up. Pulled the plug, it is tan but soaked with gas. Put in a new plug and it starts right up. Happened every time he came in. Thoughts?

Is it running normal right off the bottom when he's riding it? My first thought (because it's easy and free) is to check the air screw/pilot jet. Have you recently switched fuels?

It does bog a little on the bottom.

Start with the air screw. Fire it up and turn the idle up just enough so it will stay running and then turn the air screw until the idle reaches it's highest point. I would start by going leaner which should be counter clockwise IIRC. Once there, turn the idle back down. If the air screw isn't making a difference, put a leaner pilot in it and try again.

Sounds like a worsen needle & seat or maybe some trash there. What was done from it running right and now? Could be the float leve.

I'll clean the carb and see if that helps. We have had issues before with the shitty methanol gas they sell now.

Could be a stator problem if acting up when hot, i'd replace it and the ignition coil/plug wire.

All the above plus, check the tank and vents. One of them might be plugged.

When you have the carb off to clean it, take a quick look at the reeds!

Newb........

Joe = Joey. Alph's toddler that smoked Reed on his powerwheels. Can't believe he's on a 125 now.

Bought a carb rebuild kit and installed it today. Wouldn't start, went back to all the old carb parts and still won't start. Has a spark, but it doesn't look too Strong.

Same as above unless bike has no compression.

Plug was wet? Sticking float valve?

I think the stators on the way out. They sometimes gradually die until the spark goes from blue, to purple, to orange. Then you chase jetting, going leaner, mistakenly compensating for the weak spark.

Sounds like float needle not seating and sealing. Turn the carb on its side to where it seats and blow through the inlet. Then I would check the float level.

Ok,

Weak spark can be a grounding issue, clean the mounting for the coil & make sure there's no rust on the connections .

Then clean all the wires of corrosion, also pull the plug cap & clip 1/8 inch off the plug wire to get a good connection .

Pull the stator & clean the mounting connections , if you don't get a better spark it's time to break out the multimeter & the manual.

Hope this gets Joey up & running!

You should check compression before teardown ,buy a gauge at sears for 30 bucks.

You should have at least 150 psi.
