Curious where NASCAR stands with our fans..

Personally I can’t get into it. Am I alone?

I used to watch back in the day.. Had some time to watch yesterday. Tuned in for the opening ceremonies and the first 14 laps until half the field got wiped out with a wreck. One little wiggle by one car close to the front and carnage. Just seemed like its a dying sport, times are different. Switched over to Youtube and watched an hours worth of the 2006 MX Nationals. Man Ricky and James going at it was epic!

I watched it during its boom in the 90s and went to the June Michigan race for a few years but have long since lost interest.

I was into it when Jimmie Johnson came into the scene. He was a Cajon Zone MX kid. Then Clint Bowyer, who I spent many an hour with at the Ponca Coty arcade tent while Andy was racing.

I thought it was super cool that Andy hooked up a few to do the start at a SX, where Clint ran out of talent (and rear brake) and smashed into the air bag. it’s insane how far the sport has come and how much money is into each car.

I’ll still watch every now and then

I was... very much so. Now? Not so much. I do like to catch a couple of races, like the Brickyard 400 and I enjoy the road courses still. But I don't plan my day around watching a race, unlike MX or SX, which I do plan my day around.

I like the short tracks and big crashes lol. Really the superspeedways put me to sleep though.

Its dead to me, since i discovered Sprint Cars. Cant watch without paying , and i dont like it enough to pay. And considering i worked for Penske when we went 1-2 at Daytona, thats how much i am over it.

Dumbest motorsport there is.... ,,,and now it's gone all "woke" bullshit. Keep that out of MX/SX.

It was only cool back in these days.

Posted this the other day.... (don't remember where I originally saw it. Could have been here on Vital)

I loved Six Pack. But that’s about as close as I got. When I was younger, it used to really irritate me when non Moto friends and family used to associate Moto with nascar. It made me really dislike nascar for a long time.

I have the utmost respect for the drivers and skill it takes to succeed in that sport. I still doubt I’ll ever watch it though. I’ve been riding for 30 years, and I can’t ever remember anyone I raced with being a fan. Was just curious where everyone here stood and maybe I was missing something, like is it more popular in the southern districts or what.

If I'm not mistaken they're running a dirt oval at one of the rounds this season. That I'll watch.

I think you need a 3rd option of I kinda follow but not really. I'll watch it if it's on but I didn't know a lot of those drivers from Daytona.

After one race, the race winner is 5th in points.

I am not a fan anymore. Constant rule changes, template cars, too much PC garbage. The whole noose thing last year was just icing on the cake for me.

The sport has lost a ton, but Bristol on dirt this year will hopefully be a good race. Wanna see that 5 car take it! But, they make it too safe and pc, which is a departure from its roots, and boring-ass contrived interviews.

I watched it a lot in the 90's and early 2000's. My interest was still there for the early 2010's and I went to a few races. I cant even follow what the fuck is going on any more with this stage racing and Chase format. I also feel like the name recognition isnt quite there for me anymore.

That being said i still like to watch the superspeedways, Martinsville, and Bristol. With it going to Road America this year I'd like to check that out since its somewhat local.

Certain tracks.

I do not like the 1.5 cookie cutter tracks like Michigan, California and Las Vegas....boring on TV

Daytona is fun.
Love Bristol
Rockingham and a few others are good racing.

This year, they now have 7 road course races, including COTA and they brought dirt into Bristol...a NASCAR Cup race on dirt....and not just dirt, high banked dirt

So, yes, I like NASCAR

But I am also a racer at heart, and I'll watch any racing.

Put two turtles on a table and I'll watch em race

Bristol, which is a high bank paved track. It's like a track in a stadium

Not reall IRL honestly, some buddies i do iRacing with did the Virtual one on there and helped them spot a bit for it, was kinda fun, as a european with rather more road racing interest it was fun to see all the strategy etc involved with it. All of that got me a tiny bit into Oval racing irl, watched the Indy 500 last year, not sure about Nascar yet honestly..

I find that not to be true. I personally like any sport that involves and engine of some kind. 4 wheels, 2 wheels, no wheels who cares, if it makes noise I'm in !! NASCAR being the exception, don't watch it, don't want to watch it.

For me, all this “stage racing” and “Chase” BS ain’t NASCAR. A 500 mile race (hell...a 600 mile race!) meant they went out there and RACED until those miles were logged in the record book!

The “wokeness”’in NASCAR started when that POS Keith Obermann had is breakdown over Dale’s crash at Daytona. Since then? Sure, the cars HAVE become safer (Thanks Michael!) and some aspects of the sport had a chance to get better....but...then...

Fonzie put the skis on and it’s been a clown show ever since.

I've been a casual fan for years as I'm into fabrication and the engineering of those cars is off the charts. About 20 years ago I lived in Vegas and got free tickets to the Craftsman truck race. A fight broke out during the national anthem in front of me! That pretty much summed up the crowd that day. Laughing

We lasted 30 laps. They went by so fast you couldn't really keep up and inevitably the crashes happened on the opposite end of the track we were watching! Laughing Never did make it to a cup race out there, but that truck race was enough to cure me of my curiosity.

I would always look forward to the Bristol 500 night race but that was before they repaved it so they run 3 wide now and ruined it. That was the only NASCAR race i really wanted to watch. Cool

No. I’ll go to one race a year to crush natty ices all day and tailgate. Typically don’t watch a single lap. After five laps I’m bored. Same thing nascar fans would think when they watch a supercross race.
