Q: Alright, let's talk about Canberra and your starts. We've seen you holeshot pretty much every heat and every main up until Canberra. What was going on there?

A: Well, how can I say this; there was a change that had to be made and whether I liked it or not, I had to do it. So that definitely affected me because people can see that I am a good starter and like you said, I couldn't buy a start that weekend. Everything will be sorted out by the next round and let’s hope that I can start off where I finished in Perth.

Anyone who knows what he´s getting at? What´s the change?

he's riding Yamaha 450s here in the US for MotoConcepts this year. Maybe he's talking about the bike switch? Will he be on a Yamaha for the rest of the Aussie SX?

His team here in the U.S. for the last couple of years - which is the same team that supplied him with a lot of his equipment for this series down there - uses Dunlops. But I think his team in Australia might be sponsored by Michelin? So if it is tires, who knows what it actually means.

You had two inches of travel, no horsepower, and no one else had one of the devices, so it was equal.

Nerd, we had nearly 12inches of travel, disc breaks, and about 20lbs less weight. Go ride a 82 CR480 and tell me if it has no horsepower.

I guarantee you it doesn't have the horsepower my 2009 CRF450R has.

And there's no way they weighed 20 pounds less, unless it was just because of that spindly little frame they had. And the '82 CR480 didn't have disc brakes, either.

I don't know, but it has a Pro Circuit head, titanium valves, high-compression piston, and some other stuff in it. Reported dyno numbers show the stocker put out a little over 56 hp.

Do you think the CR480 put out 56 hp?

A quick Google search says 51 hp. And mine is more powerful than stock.

Sometimes nostalgia results in people thinking everything from back in the day was better, but if that were true, things would still be like they were then.

i always wondered what hp the stock 450's make. I thought i remember RC or one of the big guns sayin once, that the factory 450 was 60hp and anything over that amount was making them un-ridable. I will ask the engine builder who does some of the factory bikes here what the Australian factory bikes make, be interesting to find out. The torque is another thing to take into account too. I have raced against modern 450's on an 81 maico 490 and have been in the top 5 in the first corner many times. Thats only at club level though. The maico made 52HP from standard. The torque is unreal on them engines though. I had an 1982 CR480 and it was fuckin horrible i thought Blush but everyones different. I rode a CRF450 08 model in race 1 and the 81 490 in race 2 against the same guys and finished in the same position. Around mid pack. I am not a fast guy, so the new technology doesnt really benifit me as much as someone pushin the bike to its limits.

Well lets say it is the tyres and 2 secs a lap, I gather that was on a MX Track, so maybe .5 on a SX track.

Just goes to show how good Marmont, Simmonds and the other Local riders are performing, factory susp and motor maybe .8sec .

Fark look out for Mossy then as he is on an Australian 250F and only .3 sec off Dan's lap Time.

Website Fullnoise member has RV2 and Hill (riding shotgun for Lil Jimmy) coming over for Brisvegas round. Jlaw's name was mentioned but I think he would have trouble getting a Visa.

Should be good. Hope the new Vital rider can get hooked up as well.

Don't know what dynos you're using but FMF and MDK dynos (state of the art) put stock 09 450Rs at 51 hp. Ported heads, ti valves, different cams, high compression piston, pipe and a little tweaking with efi puts them at 60 hp.

Sounds fine to me. My 450 is still faster than a CR480 either way.

Maybe the Ausssie-relased 480 models were way ahead of us and had disc brakes...

Dan Reardon has had his MOJO taken for some reason.. Tyres play a massive part for these guys, so i wouldn't doubt its his tyres. I know some guys at woodstock honda, so i will see if they have any idea.
