You can put the current generation of husky on that list for me. Which is a shame because I love the bikes.
Mainly with the yellow fender.

I remember ATK's being a bit odd..

One of my favorite bikes I’ve ever owned. I saw the brochure at Vickery Yamaha in Colorado and ordered one on the spot. With the new power valve it had a different note under power that was pure badass. I miss a lot of things and that bike is one of them.

How is the orange Can Am not no.1 ?! Most of the bikes on the list are a little odd, different or even weird, but that Can Am is one of the few truly UGLY dirt bikes ever made.

That front number plate looks like it's 100% afterthought.

I put all of the austian bikes on the list. Their plastics are horrible.

I liked the Can-Am comment about the rear fender with the "erectile dysfunction" Smile

I was riding MX when those Rickmans were on the market and they were totally butt-ugly then.

Some of the bikes were actually quite beautifully designed with the exception of the graphics which could easily be changes with all the graphics companies that came out in the 90's. The 1999-2000 RM's were essentially the same bike except for minor changes in the graphics that I didn't care for either. But my 1999 RM125 was beautiful with a graphics/ seat cover change and the best 125 I have ridden once the suspension was stiffened and the super flexy oem clutch pressure plate changed to a Hinson. Those Showa forks had 49mm lower tubes, too, same as A-kit and works suspension of the time. Here is my 1999/2000 RM taken at the Shidoki track in Fukushima, Japan.

1999 RM’s were beautiful except those disgusting bulbous radiator shrouds, what a shame.
Early KX’s with the rear guard number plates were hideous, that’s my number 1 fugly.

Possibly a nostalgia thing for older folk? That's an era I can't stop loving simply because I pined for an mx bike like nothing else in those years of my life but I can admit that the design was quite out there.

This bulky front fender alone should be on the list. Other than that, the bike is ok.

How could the '81 Hondas not be on this list? Like most of the "transition" bikes of that era, the manufacturers made lots of stumbles in the looks department, and things didn't get cleaned up from a cosmetic point of view until the mid-80's. The "swayback" '80 Maicos were grotesque, and the numberplate mounted radiators of the early waterpumper Yamahas were a joke.

And I agree with racerhansen that the Husaburg was a thing of beauty - even if it wasn't, that it was basically a coach built bike blazing new trails means it was owed a lot of respect.

Finally, in stock trim the Aprilia was truly butt-ugly, but if you remove the front fender/ number plate monstrosity and the flappy side plates, it actually doesn't look bad. The trick ladderbar frame was pretty cool and the rest of the design reflected some Italian fashion integrated into and around the very functional V-2 engine package. Here's one with a '98 XR 400 front fender and old school, Maico style side plates - and some old geezer riding it...

I've ridden there once or twice .

Tony!!!! Are you kidding me?? The 1983 KX-250 is one of the coolest looking bikes ever made. Definitely unique, but certainly not ugly.

That said, just a request for more of a "blog post" type format. I'd love to scroll through and check out all the images and the rankings and chuckle and reminisce...but watching a 30m video makes that tough.

but again, thanks for all of your posts - really dig them!

Beautiful. It also reminds me of how much I miss graphics with matching seat covers. Total badassery.

81-82 KTM 125 LC radiator was under the gas tank, not on the forks like the YZ. But yes, the number plate was hideous.

How dare you shitting on the 94 TM!!
My very first bike was a 94 TM80 big wheels enduro converted to MX. The frigging thing was bad ass!! My first race it won me a trip to the hospital and the second it got me a bootlegged copy of Crusty Demons 1 on VHS I still have somewhere in a bin. None of my gear matched and I did not give a rats ass. Oh how I miss those days!

I did do a ugly bikes article for PulpMX.com about 8 years ago and had different choices back then. I have rethought some of my original choices over the last decade or so.

I had an 82 250 which had the same rear fender but air cooled. Loved that bike . You can make them look better with a universal rear fender and making a side plate from an 85 fit.
