Today I bought a 2001 CR250R sight unseen from a guy unknown, I figure how bad could it be for $350 right? All I know about it is that it quit running after he heard some loud noises HAHA "Been there before". Well when I get home tonight im going to go pick it up and post pics. Access the situation and come to my Vital family to concur if its worthy of a TOTAL rebuild !!!

Stay tuned friends, this could be a total wreck or one hell of a diamond in the rough...

Pics will be posted later this evening, I know I know, never start a thread like this until I have pics BUT I was so excited I couldnt help myself Smile

If all the pieces are there it's worth well more than $350! Good luck man can't wait to see pics!!!

Is an '02-'07 plastics conversion in it's future? Smile

He said its a complete bike, plastics are beat up and tires are shot but he hadnt really said much more than that. Like I said for $350 the frame is worth it AF conversion ???EvilEvilEvil

How much work goes into converting a 01 to house the 02-07 plastics...im not sure on that part

Not really much, mainly just the cost of the plastics but you'd probably need new ones anyway. You have to source an '02up gas tank and air box (typically from eBay so not that expensive) and make some small aluminum adapter brackets but it's not all that hard

Read up on it here:

any aluminum framed CR is a perfect project candidate because with some elbow grease and new plastics they look like new bikes

hando's 01 CR250 was always looking factory when he had it Smile

I bought a non running 2000 CR500 sight unseen for $500 3 years ago. The carbon fiber reeds were cracked/chipped/etc. Replaced them and everything was good with the engine. Plastic/tires/brake pads/chain/sprockets/bars/grips/graphics/seat cover/ and the bike was showroom. Sold it for $3100 and bought a NOS 2008 CRF450 for $4350. All said and done I paid just over $2,000 for a brand new 2008 CRF450 in 2009. Still race it to this day. All the bike I will ever need.
The best (and worst) thing about this sport is due to injuries/incomes/economy you can get great stuff almost for free. If your smart of course. Pitty the dumbasses that spend over 4 grand on dirt bikes at the amateur/hobby level.

Good idea I must admit. The only thing more appealing in my brain at the moment is a " What would have Two Two Motorsports looked like in 01'LaughingEvilCool

Keep the ideas comming guys, I love it. Bringing back the 2 smoke love, wow its been a long time. My last 2 stroke was a 04 KX500 Oh, I just shed a tear, ok ok quick someone change the subject on the fact that I no longer have the last 500 2 smoker ever made AngrySickWhistling

If there is anything wrong with the stock Mikuni carb on it, replace it with a Keihin PWK. That is the hot setup for that bike.

So you want him to turn it in to a KX 250?? Carmichael didn't move to Honda until 2002. He was on a factory Kawasaki in 2001.

RC rode Lusks 2001 the day after Steel City.

Of course... it didn't have any graphics on it.

Stock pipe, PC shorty, 2000 barrel, VForce reeds and you have pretty much the same bike Honda raced. Also the best configuration that bike runs. Toss some fasst bar ends in and stay away from any aftermarket triple tree. Factory connection has the set up for suspension. Run it stink bug or you will hate it. It prefers 10 inch spring height. 100 mm sag.
Be sure to check the crank play, that model was rough on them. That bike can yank arms out. Closest thing to the 93 motor. Honda did it right that year.

Congrats on the score.

Sadly, I sold that bike.

Gladly, I have another conversion under the knife.

Sorry fellas, had a little too much to drink last night tearing down the new project. Guy I bought it from got me started and then I quickly resumed the fun once I and the bike were safely in the garage Smile Pics are from my droid phone so I hope they turn out. After I email them from my droid to my email and then get them on photobucket you will see her.

Thus far I have mixed emotions, Its bad but could be ALOT worse I suppose. I got a ton of elbow grease in lastnight. Put a solid 5 1/2 hours into tearing it all down. Had to be at work at 7 tho so I shut it down early. Piston skirt is shattered, so a bottom end rebuild is a MUST. Im sure the bottom end looks like a war zone, but I enjoy projects so here we go!
