Multiple bikes

What's your take on owning multiple bikes?

I have had 1 bike at a time all my life. I'd ride it for a year or 3 then sell it and buy something different. Back in 2012 I built a YZ144 project bike that I love, but 125's wear out fast, so I built a YZ250AF to ride on so I can keep the 144 longer and ride something different whenever I feel like it. I enjoy riding both bikes, but sometimes I feel like riding a 450. Thinking about selling one of the bikes to pay for it, but I really like both and spent so much time and money on them that I can't see myself getting rid of them. I can't really afford a third bike at the moment. I don't like 250F's much so I figure that if I had all 3 I'd be set for a while. But I thought the same when I built the 250, so...

First world problems, I know.

Anybody owns many bikes so they don't feel like trading so often?

I race a 250f and a 450. I feel like the 450 helps me on my 250.
i figured it would be the opposite, the 250 would help you keep your momentum up in corners and help with line selection when riding the 450. I noticed a huge improvement in my riding after getting off a 125 and getting on a 250 2 stroke

I honestly think the perfect combo is a 125 and 250 2 stroke or 125 and 450

I think Newman needs to quit posting pics of his collection because every time I see it I want to start one of my own and I know I wouldn't be allowed as it would lead to divorce court.Laughing

The more the merrier!

I'm down to 1 right now but have typically had 2-3. Can't wait to buy another sometime this fall... But anyway, since you never get back what you put into them, I can totally identify with what you said. You spend your time and money getting them dialed in only to sell them and start it all over again - very frustrating. If you can afford it, keep them all.

That's exactly how I feel about putting time, money and passion in the bikes only to sell them after 1 or 2 seasons because I have a new project in my head. I thought keeping two bikes would make me not want to change bikes as soon, but it didn't seem to work. Since I bought this house with a garage I seem to enjoy tweaking/modding/tuning my bikes more than actually riding them...

I just bought a new travel trailer and am in the process of remodeling the house, so a third (and fourth, as I'm also considering getting a pit bike to ride at a friend's house nearby) are out of reach at the moment. I guess I'll have to be patient and hope my kids will enjoy riding so I can live my newfound passion working on their bikes...

I agree w/ Anthony. I've had 250f/450 and felt the 450 made me faster. I would think to myself, "I hit that double on my 450 and I hit this corner that fast on my 450, so why can't I do it on my 250f too?" I certainly think the 450 made me faster. I believe I pushed myself to do things that I otherwise wouldn't have if I rode just the 250F.

Currently I have just 1 06 RM250…. There was a time I had 3 RM250'S, 2 06's abd a 01. Before that I had 2 honda crf250's. In the future I plan on owning EVERY last gen Japanese 250 2 stroke and a few others.

Personally i LOVE having multiple bikes. My setup or reasoning was to have a bike strictly setup for the track i.e. stiff suspension & brutal hard hitting power, then I would have the same bike/model possibly a year or two variation and the other nine would be for the hills or desert which I could set up to be softer and depending on where I would go riding would dictate which bike I was taking with me, that way I wouldnt have to mess with my settings and didn't wear out parts and tires on my track bike by riding in the hills

Having two bikes just means more $$$.$$ for up keep, that said.....two is better than one. Nothing over 199 cc's works for me!

My stable has a GasGas EC200

The other ride is a YZ125 both are super fun....

I own the trifecta (125/250/500). Each has their purpose.

I can't imagine owning only one bike - currently have 17 in the stable (just trimmed down from 19).

(Hi everybody, my name is Mr Bean and I'm a bike-a-holic.) Cool

Look at it like this - it's MUCH cheaper than trying to afford 19 women. Shocked

Yup. (Even thought it is already looking great!)

To tease, a super light YZ super mini 105/112 from Loretta with tricks to make it higher will still be missing Smile

I had one for a long time then I bought a 125 project bike. Now that I have 2, I can't imagine going back.

Damn Newmann, that is a sweet collection.

I have a CRF450 to race and a CR250 2 stroke to mess around on. I'm trying to learn to ride the 2 stroke faster with hopes of it making me have more skill on the 450.

My logic is... I rail on my 450, so I feel more comfortable on my 250 which allows me to ring the hell out of my 250.

I have two just because its cost alot to get to the races sign up for them so i would hate to have to pack it up and go home because of a bike failure. I have a yz45o and yz250f it also allows me to have more class options because some of the fair races dont have so many classes.

I have a CRF 450R and a YZ 125. Best combination in my opinion. The thing I like most about having 2 bikes is that I usually drive 1.5 hours to go ride. It's nice to have a back up bike if you have a mechanical issue. I would hate to spend all that time and gas money and not be able to ride much.

When I was racing when I was younger it made sense to keep the previous years bike as a practice machine to save the wear and tear on the new race bike. The value of the bikes drops pretty fast when they're used, but a two year old bike is worth about as much as a one year old bike on the used market so it made sense to keep them an extra year and get the extra use out them.

It didn't hurt to practice on a 125 and race a 250 either.

I want to get on a 2 stroke again and the yz has 20 hours on it. Just raced Fl. Series on it and got on a 4stroker and put that in storage. It will be nice to have if my air forks go out from what I hear as well.

Multiple bikes, hmmmmmm.......

Big vintage nut here and our local vintage club would rent the track so it was just us and not just getting a couple of gate drops in the middle of 30 motos of modern bikes on a regular race day. We would have a small number of classes for modern bikes, aimed at the kids and vet classes to help cover the track rental costs. Both of my kids and I would ride vintage and modern classes so we always had six plus bikes with us at any given race. Talk about odd, climbing off a 74 CR250 and on to a YZ250F modern bike on back to back motos. Careful grabbing that front brake for the first time on the new one!

Fast forward and the kids have grown up, off to college, got married and the young one was on the school swim team swimming 6 days a week somewhere in the state of Texas every Saturday. No time for bikes for the last quite a few years. Young one graduated and joined the Marines so we've been playing catch up on my garage/shop project and some home remodeling we've put off the last ten years . Marine boy gets some time off in the next couple weeks and wants to go ride so I'll have to skip a work day and go have some fun before he heads off to Spain for six months to a year. Been working double time the last ten years as well trying to nail down something called semi retirement......almost there but about had enough of that too!

Bad side to restoring and racing multiple bikes? Multiple everything, tires tubes, chains six at a time, cases of oil, grips by the dozen, pistons by the six pack. Got to the point when things were winding down that when a bike shit the bed we would just park it and take another one out the next time. Eventually you end up with a bunch of broke bikes, and that's where I'm at now. You also eventually come to the conclusion that you no longer own them, they own you. Laughing

Gonna have to take some pics at the track here in the next couple of weeks with me holding a current newspaper so mxb2 will believe I was actually there!
