See so many awesome rebuilds out there. Those are the lucky few, this is for everyone else.
Sometime around October I decided my bike just wasn't pulling like it should, wouldn't come out of corners refused to leave the start in 2nd gear. So rebuild time
Step 1. Clean

Step 2. Disassemble

Step 3. Clean some more

Step 4. New grips

Step 5. Wait for funds.

......

Step 6. Febuary 20-ish
Tax returns time-rebuild time. I was told that the bike had be over bored by the previous owner, wasn't sure what we were going to do about the piston. And was worried what condition the cylinder would be in. So we pulled it apart and measured it. Everything is stock sized and ok.

Step 7. Ordered new top end kit and some silencer packing. Wanted to order restyled front fender and number plate to add some freshness to this rebuild but got slapped by my wallet. Should be here in a few days.

(Oh and durring this process my forks started leaking) yay more expenses!!!

I feel your pain, I've finally pulled the trigger on a rebuild for my rm250 after working all summer. Luckily I was able to save up enough and make good use of the Christmas season to be able to get the frame painted along with replace all of the bearings and other crap that was worn out from years of getting beat on. You might want to try sticking a thin feeler guage or something similar up into the seal of your fork to try and clean things out a bit, sometimes a small leak is caused by a little dirt particle that is wedged up in the seal. Hope that helps, good luck with the project!

BTW I don't know how Yamaha is with their oem parts, but Suzuki makes you want to go to Japan and throw every damn person working in sales out the window! It's ridiculous what they want for their stuff!

Exactly i have gotten off cheap, still has taken 5 months to manage $150 and that's only because I got a tax return. The forks will be around another $150 (I use SKF fork seals)

I've heard suzuki is ridiculous on their parts. Which sucks because I would like to have a RM250 one day. Probably will go for a YZ250 though.

Sometimes I reluctantly clean my bike, just waiting to find something that is going to cost me a fortune.
Recently took my carb off and cleaned it out, then my buddy suggested taking a look at the reeds...
Before I did I asked him how much they would cost to replace if they were messed up, cringed, and proceeded to hesitantly peek through them. The tension was unbelievable.

If you do the fork seals and change the oil yourself, it will cost way less than $150.

College, really limits work hours and jobs willing to work with that.

Right on man! Bet you are glad you got a 2-stroke or you'd be saving up cash for 10x longer!

But why didn't you keep riding her while you saved up cash? Seems you jumped the gun on the tear down.

Getting close
Got the engine back together today, fresh trans oil, fresh coolant, new spark plug.
Need to get the air filter cleaned, silencer re packed, grips, fresh gas, and get new pipe springs because one broke trying to get it back on. While I'm at it I think I will get some fresh brake fluid too.
I pulled the fork guard guards off so I could clean out the seals. They have leaked out so much. If it was just some dirt then I'm going to have to get new oil because it's lost so much the forks are easy to compress. If they continue to leak it will probably be another month before I can get back to riding.

I did the forks on my CR125 for the cost of the seal kit (Pivot Forks, did everything), seal bullet and driver. I also replaced the fork caps because they were a bit munched. I also did the fork rebuild with a broken leg. It Probably cost me $100 and half a day to get forks that were as new as it gets for a pair of used forks.

No one ever said motocross was cheap, just a 125 is the cheapest bike to get. My 125 runs on the smell of an oily rag, always plenty of fun to ride and has enough power to get the front wheel up. I only weigh 60-65kg so the wheel is mostly spinning. My 450 costs way more and gets used a lot less. Also is like a bucking bull.

The track is west craven mx in vanceboro nc. It is sand and it gets pretty rough. There are deep spots pic 3 and 4 are probably the deepest parts when it gets torn up. Except for one section he doesn't have a pic of. But it's not deep everywhere

It's an awesome track, dirt looks heavenly this weekend. It's really fun like an oversized backyard pit bike track. Have fun! To me the fast line around the long front straight corner is to go way wide on entry and around the deep rollers and then cut and draw a line straight across the inside. It really helps when it gets bumpy through there give it a try

When was the last time you greased the rear linkage or steering stem? Simple prep work can limit the cost when things go bad, no to mention the bike will handle/work much better also.

Got the new grips on today, washed the filter which I'm going to oil tomorrow, and re packed the silencer should be able to start it tomorrow. Forks have stopped running, but they leave a ring whenever the suspension is compressed. Pretty sure the seals are done but I'm going to get some oil and top off the forks to see what they do. That way I can get atleast one ride out of them if they need to be fixed. Also got a letter in the mail today.

Bike, truck, dog, and acceptance letter to ECU for industrial engeneerig to go on top of my machining I'm finishing now. It Was a good day.

Nice job on getting accepted to an engineering program. When I went to school, I found a job at a small local shop. I didn't make a ton but I got a good deal on stuff and the hours were really flexible. Plus, you learn to work on your own stuff which saves you more money than any parts discount.

Man, I know the feeling. Bought a 125 this past fall for restoration project after working all summer that came to a halt. I'm also going for Industrial Engineering and college runs the funds dry real quick. Be prepared!
