Only have one and the gym is a 20 mile drive so that is not reasonable. What would you choose? Thinking concept 2 vs airdyne pro.

I have a concept 2 and highly recommend one! I don't know what an airdyne pro is.

The Concept 2 rower gives a good cardio workout, and uses your upper body. I'd chose that.

Well i assume most people dont know what a airdye is because they both are a hard cardio workout that does upper body and lower body at the same time. I assumed everyone knew what one was. I was more looking for opinions from people that have had used both. https://www.roguefitness.com/schwinn-airdyne-ad-pro?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIx…

Concept 2 is a damn torture machine. It's an all over workout. I'd bet it against any stationary bike, any day. But it's torture.....

Rower has constant eccentric and concentric contractions (resistance), with both upper and lower. Pedaling on a bike has periods of rest, per pedal cycle, unless you clip in (and make the constant effort to pull up with each leg, every stroke). Upper movement on the air dyne also will have periods of rest, per cycle. Therefore, rower wins.

try both, see which one kicks your ass harder.

I know the answer, but everyone has different fitness and needs.

I have both. The bike will murder you. But it’s very hard to get motivated to do it all the time. The rower is actually a bit enjoyable to do if that is even possible. I rarely dread my rowing workouts. That bike sits a lot. It’s just painful and boring.

I would spend money on a rower but don't discount a bicycle on a training roller. you can hook up to zwift online and race on tv against your buddies, or anyone. tell me you will coast and not pedal hard..lol

Rower.

Airdyne is badass too but I feel like the rower is a better overall workout.

Maybe get both and switch it up between the two if you can afford to cop both.

Give the concept2 skierg a try. It's cheaper than the rower, takes less space and is a great workout too.

Be careful with the rower if you suffer from lower back pain. I learned this the hard way, i was expecting the pain to get better as I go and build up core strength. was not the case for me at least.
Heres a good article on it:

Depending on your anatomy and flexibility you may or may not be affected. Worth looking into before you buy one if lower back pain is a problem as it seems to be for a lot of mx riders above age 25.

I'm 52 and use a C2. No low back pain here.

Also take this into consideration. When I run more and improve my running times, the bike and the rower both improve or become easier. But not the other way around. My buddy has an airdyne also and said the same thing. And running is free so.

That's why I prefer the skierg.

I've had both for years and IMO an Airdyne is better if you can have only one.

I have the C2 ski erg, the C2 Rower, and the Peloton stationary bike. I used an Air Dyne but it was 20yrs ago so I won't comment on it. I'm sure it's evolved some.

In order of ass kicking:

Ski Erg and Peloton tied

Rower (only by a hair - do not confuse this ranking to mean it's at all easy)

In order of best overall workout:

Rower (by a mile)

Ski Erg (with the correct technique you do a get a leg workout)

Peloton (Just by a hair it loses to Ski Erg - part of each class is a 3-4min dumbbell workout while still spinning)

In order of amount of use:

Peloton (by a big margin)

Rower

Ski Erg

I was skeptical about the Peloton. Especially the $40/month subscription for the live and recorded classes but it's so much fun competing against others on the leader board. I'm also a numbers junkie and the Peloton gives all kinds of stats. Plus the live feed gives an amazing cleavage view of the female instructors. Nice eye candy for the entire workout.

I'm in the same boat as you. For me I hate having to tighten the foot loops on the Concept 2, seems like every minute or so they get really loose. Also I have a bar/plates and I like to incorporate cardio exercises in my metcons; its easier to go from dead lifts to the bike as opposed to getting on the rower and getting the foot straps secured.

I currently use a Lemond Spin Bike but I'm thinking of trading it for an Airdyne/Assault bike.

Concept2 rower for sure! Shoot for a sub-7 minute 2K time, a sub-19 minute 5K time, a sub-40 minute 10K time, and a 10 minute motocross race will seem easy! Well, easier.

I like the rower because it is easy to compare your times to others to see how you stack up. I have used the Airdyne before, and while it is a great workout, I have no idea what a good Airdyne time would be.

Plus, the Concept2 rower is bulletproof, and has a high resale value if you end up not using it and want to sell it.

Not to hijack, but I have been really curious about the Peloton. It looks very interesting.

I have hard time to get motivation for Rower even gym has one. If you do it right its not only upper body for sure.
Im more using road bike with trainer and Zwift cycling program. You can have training courses, ride alone road you want or race against others. Elite Trainer I'm using adjust watts during course and I can hit level of training I want or just race.
I would get Rower and trainer for your bike just to get both worlds.

Well hopefully made the right decision. I just ordered a concept 2 at least if it does not work out I will be able to sell it. resale on used ones is nuts. Must mean they are good.
