Prayers for who ever it is..
EDIT: Rest in Peace Marty and Nancy. Forever a Champion in racing and in life.
The Moto Family mourns..

From Steve Wise's Facebook page.

I have been sent an urgent text that one of the most well known past Motocross racers in the world was injured in a wreck and is on the brink of death; asking me to PRAY. Please MotoFellowship family, PRAY with me that the Spirit of God would intervene in the situation!

Just received this text; Pray God breathes life into him!

Hoping I’m wrong in putting this together with another thread and thinking thus may be about my first hero. Sending positive thoughts........

Got that last night on my FB page, since Steve and I are friends there. I was wondering who it might be, and Steve was gracious enough not to spill the beans last night to keep down the chatter. I always thought Marty was the coolest rider ever, and looked great on a Honda. Prayers for his recovery!

Godspeed to my old dear Monark friend and MX hero Marty Smith and his beloved wife Nancy who sadly perished in a dune buggy accident last night. May God give comfort to his family and friends. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

I am gutted. He was the reason I got interested in Motocross in the first place. An absolute icon that so many of us kids growing up in the 70's looked up to.

Marty was my first, and pretty much only hero. I was introduced to him by my friend, Buddy at Lake Whitney one year, and I was scared to death, like a 10-year old child, meeting my hero like that, but he was pleasant as can be. This is a deep wound. RIP Marty and his wife, Nancy.

I understand Dave, I felt the same way when I met him at a Vintage race we did at Rio Bravo long ago.

RIP to the guy who inspired us all. Sad

OMG I can't believe this!!!!!

To the younger generation of MXer's Marty Smith was Jeremy McGrath before there was a Jeremy. He really was AMERICA's FIRST MOTOCROSS SUPERSTAR....

I was in Laughlin one time in an elevator with a Family of four and the kids had Moto shirts on and I commented "Nice Shirts".

Nancy replied, "Thanks meet Marty Smith." I told him how much I admired him and his racing. Shook my hand and said “Thank-You I appreciate it”, he was very gracious.

Marty Smith was such a class act and America could not have had a better Ambassador to the sport…..

I am gutted—this has been a SAD week…. Sad

Oh man, that's bad news. Marty was popular a little before my time in moto, but of course I recognize his contribution. He left us far too soon.

Very sad day for a generation of moto riders. At a time when moto was at its coolest, he was by far the coolest racer/person in the sport. Like Rupert said, we all wanted to be just like him. I used to wear a team Honda Jersey just like his to school in 6th grade, even wore it for yearbook photos. I’m sure my parents were happy about that. He always stayed involved over the years and we were lucky enough that he’d come on various podcasts now and then to relive some of his glory days. Marty, you won’t be forgotten. Godspeed to you and Nancy
