Had a season with this many race missing injuries? I can’t recall one.

Personally, I think the loss of a dominant rider (or two) has upset the pecking order causing the riders to each take greater risks to establish their place in the respective classes.

You have to be kidding....

The entire top 27 riders in 450 points were healthy at the Oakland round 2 weeks ago. 5 guys (Grant, Weimer, Bogle, Roczen, Barcia) have gone out since, but still almost every other year there are more injuries.

2003 was a really bad one. Some of the rounds had only 3 factory riders - RC, Reed, Fonseca.

But before Oakland we had lost for a few races: Tomac, Marvin, Wilson. And some others in practice crashes. With the 5 you listed that’s about 30% of the points earning field have been out for 1 or more races.

Yep, 2003 was probably worse.

2012 was pretty bad as near the end the only one standing was Villopoto, and even he couldn't escape the injury bug that year.

2012 was really bad. The only guys to get through healthy that year were Davi Millsaps and Jake Weimer, two pretty unlucky guys with injuries most years. Go figure! But yeah, Trey and Ryan Morais out at Dodger Stadium. Stroupe out with a shoulder problem (he and Morais were the Star Valli Yamaha 450 guys, replaced by Kiniry and Peick eventually). Yoshimura Suzuki only had Metcalfe that year and he was hurt at some point, I think a shoulder injury. Reed went out at Dallas battling RV and tore up his knee. Dungey cracked his collarbone mid-week and actually raced St Louis but had to miss 3 or 4 rounds. RV blew his knee out at Seattle. Brayton was on factory Honda and raced every round but did so with a broken fibula, I think maybe at Dallas he hurt it. Stew didn't get hurt, he just disappeared from JGR with a couple of rounds to go. Shorty was racing for Chapparal/Supercross.com and he hurt his shoulder at San Diego. Josh Grant was riding for Jeff Ward Racing and he was injured early on with a shoulder problem. I think that is most of the factory supported teams accounted for.

I also remember that year a bunch of 250 guys raced big bikes. Cole Seely and Wil Hahn both filled in for Trey at points. Marvin rode Daytona in the mud on a KTM 350 and got 4th. And Kenny was 2nd to Shorty in Seattle on the 350.
