Anyone know the record for most different points leaders in one season?

We might have a crap ton this year the way the seasons going. Tomac might grab it, musquin who else.

Already been barcia, roczen and webb right ?

Interesting. I have no clue how many there have been in other seasons but I'd guess that 5 would be pretty high.

If I had to guess I'd say that Musquin gets it after this weekend. Then Roczen gets it back. And towards the end of the season Tomac gets it and keeps it.
But who knows....

I was just thinking that, red plate has changed hands every race so far. Anderson, Barcia, Roczen, Webb

Roczen had the red plate at A2 and Oakland

I've found quite a few seasons with 3 different red plate holders in the premier class. But I can't find any with 4 or more.

1990 comes to mind...I'm pretty sure Bradshaw, Matasavitch, Bayle, and Stanton (In that order) all led the points.

I don't think Bayle ever got the red plate:

1. Bradshaw, 3 point lead
2. Bradshaw, 18
3. Stanton, 1
4. Matiasevich,, 2
5. Matiasevich, 1
6. Matiasevich, 6
7. Matiasevich, 14
8. Matiasevich, 21
9. Matiasevich, 14
10. Matiasevich, 7
11. Matiasevich, 8
12. Matiasevich, 10
13. Matiasevich, 8
14. Matiasevich, 7
15.Matiasevich, 1
16.Stanton, 6
17.Stanton, 14
18.Stanton, 7

Matiasevich only won one race that year, and only six podiums, but held the red plate most of the season.

2011 I think RV, Reed, Dungey and Stew all had the red plate at some point? Or maybe Reed only had it in the outdoors?

I don't think Dungey ever had it, unless you count round one, which is dumb. Nobody should have the red plate for round one.

Yeah I agree, run the no.1 as defending champion but no red plate at round one.

Nice breakdown. Thanks. Hard to believe Bayle didn't lead but I guess not.. He got on a hot streak in the later half of the season. I do remember Chicken leading a long time and wondering how the hell is he still in the lead.

Bayle won round 15 (Matiasevich finished 9th) and closed to within 9 points:
Stanton 265
Matiasevich 264
Bayle 256

That was the closest he got since round 1.

Then Stanton won the next two events to take a 14-point lead into the finale at the LA Coliseum. (There were 18 rounds in 1990.)

Jean-Michel Bayle crashed in practice of round 2 and wasn't able to race round 2 or round 3.

I was at the Foxboro round. I remember Bayle was on a hot streak of sorts since he also won the NY round and I started to think he was going to pull it off. Damn.. that was a long time ago.

That seems to be the case. And I don't think anybody would be surprised if Musquin AND Tomac each held the red plate at some point this year.

Pretty wild stuff this year. Im certainly surprised i expected the same group to crush it and everyone else flounder with inconsistency. But we are still only 4 rounds in, it may spread out here quickly yet.

Yep. I expect things to shake up more.

But, I wouldn't be totally surprised if Cooper Webb goes on a run. He has the pedigree, and now he has Baker's successful training program. Going into the season, I would have been shocked to see Webb win the championship. But right now, it's seems like a possibility.

Agreed. He was pretty damn dominant at the end on 250s. Now with baker and ktms program hes got everything he needs and now he has the confidence too.

Butttt i do feel like tomacs about to go on a tear also. If he was nursing an injury, hes going to catch up with fitness and settings and find another gear im willing to bet soon.

Perhaps the defending champ should start the season with a one point lead to justify holding the red plate....
