this could go a variety of ways. I guess the most obvious is alessi. But I don't mean that as a slam on mike. He's had an awesome career. I just figure if you would have polled most people in the pits during his amateur days, they would have said he would have some type of championship under his belt at this point.

oops, my bad. I did it wrong, too. I'll take my lashings now. I guess I would have to say alldredge, just because of the team he is on. But then again, I don't think he was really overhyped and he's shown he has some serious speed.

I will say he hasn't produced, but I don't believe he was over hyped by any stretch of the imagination.

Yes the "believe the hype" shirts were ridiculous, but other then that he earned all the hype he has coming through armatures....ask anyone who was fortunate enough to be in the era, spectating or racing, when Mike was on 80's.....it was literally incredible how fast he was. I can only think of one time that he lost at a national straight up ( ponca 03? ) and it shocked everyone. He NEVER lost.

too early this year, Matthew Bisceglia I know has a concussion, but he needs to step it up to keep that Honda ride
he won all 6 of his motos @ loretta's in 2013. He has got to be feeling the pressure & he's not a rookie.
It"s too early to say this year. look @ martin last year in supercross, then he wins the outdoor title.

how many times has Alessi finished 2nd in a championship? gotta be leading or close to leading in that category. hardly over hyped in my opinion.

i'm still waiting for Bell to start performing.

Alldredge (sp?) looks good but man that kid can wreck a dirt-bike

RJ Hampshire. I mean, he hasn't even raced yet, technically that means he hasn't performed Silly

Sorry I'm a smartass

So true. I'll tell you who definitely performed, though...Johnny Moto. That guy did not disappoint.

Bell's heading in the right direction. After crashing his brains out for the past few years he has a couple top 10's and a top 5.

That last line has me breaking weak for some reason, just the way it was worded.

But in all seriousness, I would say Alldredge.

Zach Bell perhaps? I don't know how he performed during his amateur years but he got signed by Geico so that must mean something.

Tell that to DM18 (or 118).

Theres been a few who went straight to factory rides then dissapeared.
Izzi and stroupe are the two most people think of in recent times. They were derailed by outside influences more than just straight up not being good enough.

The two biggest phenoms that i can think of that havent really produced like expected and are still around are Alessi and Millsaps. There is alot of wins between the two of them and a lites title for millsaps but when you look at the guys that have come up around them with less fan fare and gone on to win multiple big titles, namely RV and Dungey.

I wouldnt call any of these guys failures by any stretch, they just didnt crush the pros in James Stewart style fashion from the get go like many thought.

How can Alldredge even be considered? The kid came in almost unknown. I'd say he did pretty damn well in his first two outdoor races and we all know how difficult supercross is for a rookie. Give him a full year in the pros before you crucify him.

I hate to say it because I loved to watch him ride, but Bradshaw. Yea, won a kites SX title, but missed the mark after that. Wasn't he one of the first full factory 80 riders. Damn I wanted him to win. Such a bad ass on a bike.

Ben Riddle. He was unreal at LL and was a step beyond anyone of his peers in his amateur big bike days. Straight to Factory Suzuki then nothing.

Although Alessi never became the sports next superstar like many predicted he still has had his share of success and a good career. Just never a championship.

And those saying Aldredge... He was off the radar compared to many Pro rookies before him on Pro Circuit ride so cut the kid some slack. Too early to call him out he just needs to learn SX more, outdoors he is a threat.

Adam Cianciarulo.

Yep. I said it. I know he is the Golden Boy here on Vital, but I truly believe he has not lived up to his hype.

And NO, I am not discrediting him, the kid is blazing fast and a proven winner - he just can't really live up to the hype while sitting on the couch at home......................................

Let the crucifixion begin.............

I agree, which is a shame because I know Adam would be stomping anyone and everyone in the 250 class right now, either coast. That's simply my opinion, though.

It's unfortunate, he hasn't been able to keep it on two wheels.

AC has had bad luck, but he's still only in his 2nd season and has a supercross record of 3/5 and finished 5th despite missing the last 3 races.... He'll be fine and it's faaaaaaar too early to say he hasn't lived up to anything.

What about Buddy Antunez? He never quite got that #1 spot in MX or SX and I really expected more from him. Another argument could be made for Damon Bradshaw. I know he won the 125E title in 1989 but with all the hype surrounding him, you would have thought he would have won more titles.

With as much hype as there was for AC turning pro for 2013 mx nationals and supposed to win right away he was between 10th--18th except for his 4th at miller motorsports national.I am only talking about his 1st season-he was supposed to kill it outdoors.
