It has been a while since I have been on the Forum with you guys. Since my days of AX, I have now been hired as the Director of Flat Track for AMA Pro Racing. Could say I am pretty much back where I started.

We just completed two nights of successful events at Municipal Stadium in Daytona Beach during Bike Week. This was our first race with the new Production rule in the Singles National Championship. Many say it was one of the best double header nights of racing at Daytona. (I disagree because I won at the old stadium 30 years ago... man time flys!!)

One of my goals is to get Flat Track back rolling again by spreading the word. Here are a couple videos for those old die-hard flat track fans...and for the new.

Hope You Enjoy,
Mike Kidd

It's great to see ya back in the sport! I remember you from the AX day's at Will Rogers Collisium in Ft Worth TX's. I raced with Ray Burgess and Kawasaki of Carrollton. You are a great promoter, they are lucky to have you!!!

Good luck in your new venture!!!

I went to both nights of racing in Daytona and it was a blast. I had never been to a flat track race before and it was really great racing. It was a nice change from supercross where often the holeshot determines the winner of the race. Wed night was nuts with all of the last lap, last corner passing. If anyone ever has a chance to check one of the races out make sure you do. I would really like to see one of the bigger tracks now that I have seen the short track race.

Bring back those Miles California use to have. Been like 10 yrs or so since we've had a National here.

What are realistic prospects that a AMA Pro Dirt Track race will return to California?

There are lots of Mile tracks sitting doing nothing; Stockton, Vallejo, Santa Rosa to name a few that haven't gotten their dirt changed to the artificial type for horse racing as the State mandated a few yrs ago.

Be nice to see National Dirt Track racing again; especially the Miles.

I was doing cartwheels when I saw that we are getting some of the races on speed. I had the fortune of seeing the daytona race in 2000 when i was working for Storz performance, been hooked ever since, I mean I even bought land to build my own practice shorttrack/tt. We just lost our track in AZ(speedworld flattrack) Great news and will deffinately drive to the races within a days distance. Great news and yes the west coast needs some more flat track!!

Yeah ,real professional series. Did you know they sound test the bikes by ear in flat track? IF it sounds too loud to Kidd , Morehead and the gang , you don't pass.

We have taken several chapters from AX, SX and placed them flat track. We have new classes, format and more. Here is just a few of the improvement;

1. Added a Pro class with riders racing at all the short tracks, TT, Half Mile and Miles on production based 450cc bikes. Similar to the Lites class. These riders will be racing for a National Championship Title.

2. Reduced the Expert Heats to only 3. This has stacked the heats with three rows of riders.

3. Dash - Remember the AX Dash For Cash! 6 Expert riders line up and go at it for four laps...and these guys are hungry...race hard.

4. O'Yea... We have two beautiful Trophy Girls shooting our T-Shirt cannon.

5. Added recorded music intro for several of our top riders.

6. Every heat, semi, dash and main is introduced with recorded music and sponsor.

7. Improved our Victory Podium with the winners bike placed on the podium and the top 3 riders.

8. Same two announcers traveling the entire series so they know the format, point standings, get to know the riders habits....another words relate the whole story to our fans.

9. Most important, shortened the program for 3-4 hours down to 2:30 hours.

More later,
MK

Yep....I know what you mean. The guy that wrapped the t-shirts on Thursday night was not aware there is a certain way to keep them from coming apart like a parachute! The girls shot two that came apart, then I said Let Me Try It! Same thing happened to me. I just went and hid behind the podium for a while and rewrapped the remaining shirts. Pretty embarrasing. mk

Funny tee shirt story from the Thursday night race at Daytona. We were sitting on the 50 yard line and early in the program Mike and the girls come out with the tee shirt cannon and lob one directly at me. It was about 3 feet from hitting me in the hands when, out of nowhere, the guy behind me knocks my hat over my eyes and the t-shirt bounces off my hands and lands in the lap of an older gentleman behind us. The guy that hit me in the head apologizes and we all chalk it up to fate, no biggie. Then, later in the program, Mike and the girls come back out with the tee shirt cannon and I joke with my buddies, and the guy that hit me in the head earlier, that I'm putting hat on backwards this time. Amazingly enough, Mike lobs another one directly at me and I stand up at the last minute and snag it! Everybody around us goes nuts as it was like lightning striking twice. The highlight of my week at Daytona. lol

BTW, the flat track races turned out to be some of the best racing of the week. We really enjoyed it.

That's about what Kidd said to a rider who traveled 1500 miles to Daytona, and was told just by the looks and sound of his exhaust that it was not legal. No AMA sound test, just a feeble set of eyes and ears were the judge.

DMG did not even have the equipment to test at the track. Real fucking bush league shit right there.

Did the rider get help and end up racing, or was he sent home?

A local dealer stepped up and lent a stock pipe. Bike was dyno'd and sound tested using the said illegal pipe. It passed the sound tests administered by the builder/tuner.

Kidd and company did not even have a meter of any sort on the grounds. The bike ran like shit with the stock pipe. Rider pleaded for a sound test, but Kidd's final words were, "It's a non-issue".

I do not care what Mike's accomplishments are /were as a racer, promoter, etc., that doe's not make his word or judgement the gospel. He owes an apology at the very least,(which the rider did not receive).

If this is the way he intends to promote the future of flat track, Lord help us all.
3/28/2009 3:00pm
I wonder what would have happened if Chris Carr, Joe Kopp, or Kenny Coolbeth was told they could not run if that pipe happened to be on their bikes?

Not saying that what you're saying isn't true, but don't you think that if you're going to make accusations like that, it's only fair you reveal names, like yours and the rider's?

We used to go to the California State Fair every year in the 70's and 80's
and watch the Sacramento Mile. That was so much fun.

Want happened to the Harley's?
