How is the reliability on the new sprinter vans? Any info would be great, good or bad.

Joe has the older style Sprinter with the older engine.

I've heard mixed reviews of the newer engine for long-term durability when compared to the older style. I'd recommend doing a google search for someone who has put some serious miles on the newer style, past the 150,000 mark for a better idea. Some moto guys have the newer ones, but I don't know how many have high-mileage on those.

My son has a 2008 Sprinter (Diesel) with nearly 200k on it. He bought the trouble shooting computer and does his own repairs as much as possible. It is still running.......I just bought the Gas Dodge (Fiat) Promaster.....

Friend of mine has two now. His original has near 300k on chassis. A dealer had put a reman engine in. Didn't run right. He looked at it. Drove it. Saw the wiring not plugged into all the sensors. Buys it for 5k. Plugs in the wiring in front of the dealer. Motors on. Just got a little newer one. Huge. Can fit like four bikes and gear in it. High ceiling its damn near mint condition for 3k. Again. At a dealer. Crank pulley had come off. Dealer said it needed a new engine. Friend toes it home. Grinds a slot in the steered crank bolt. Unthreads it with a screwdriver. Goes to dealer and gets a key way. Pulley bolt and washer and crank seal. $300. It's rolling. Some high end home entertainment install co had orig bought it new. Wish I could find one like it......

When I worked at ups, we had some diesel sprinters that had 550k miles on them. They were well maintained though. I don't recall them being out of service for more than brakes and tires. Ups drivers beat the shit out of those things too. They take punishment.

Yea, i have been seeing a lot of 2015 and 2016's in the moto community also. Been reading mix reviews on them.

Great example, the older engines are absolute workhorses.

Hey guys, so yeah I got a really good deal on a 2006 Dodge Sprinter. It's around 260k miles on the 5 cylinder diesel engine.

I've driven some newer 12-16s and they are super tight, nice and quiet. The new diesel ones are pretty awesome. Do you think you would put over 150k on one? Could always buy it, and sell it around that mark...

Same model that ups put 550k. I think you're solid with that 2006....

I have a 2009 cdi315 with professional furnishings with 3+4 seats. 370 000 km on it now and it runs ok.

The biggest problem is that the rust so freaking easily. We had an Citroen Jumper and Iveco Daily before the Sprinter and the driving attributes are way better on the Sprinter.

A good maintained Sprinter will last you 500-700k kilometers.

The thing is. They are so incredibly popular that you're going to hear really good things about them and some horror stories about them.

Ran sprinters for years now... It is my opinion that the post 06/07 ones are not as well built as the ones before them however the newer ones do drive better and do last as long as serviced.. Here in the uk with our climate all the body's do rust real bad on all models

I've got a '15 that I bought as a leftover for $6500 below sticker. 6k miles, loving it so far. Feels tight, drives well, 4 cyl can get 28mpg. Feels slow at freeway speeds especially when passing, but very zippy around town. Can't speak on reliability yet, but van had a blown brake booster when I took it off the lot. They fixed it under warranty without issue.

I will say, all the rape and pedophile jokes I get don't buother me, but peoplet constantly ask if it's the 4x4 and then have some comment. "Oh, it's not 4x4? I would've gotten the 4x4 if I were you." Yeah, okay. Let's pay $55k for a van and wait 12 months for it to show up. These comments are always from people who'd never buy one anyways.

I'd like to get a sprinter I'm happy with my little RWD 4.3L v6 Chevy express 1500. Has 104,000 on it. Bought with 68,000 miles for 14k. Boxed the back out. Threw a hitch on it and I can pull a small trailer without giving up any fuel economy. Larger trailer will suck the fuel but I got so much freaking space I don't need a big trailer.

Plus just throw up a window unit AC if I'm somewhere for more than a day In killer heat. It's the "tiny house" craze of motocross I tell ya!

I seem to remember an issue with the harmonic balancer on older models needing attention every 75k miles or so. Maybe someone has more info.

Take a test drive in the Transit, Promaster and Sprinter. You might be surprised with the 3.5 twin turbo Transit. Handles really nice and has over 400 ft pounds of torque.

2016, now has 8k miles, drives really nice, plenty of power, and it's great to work out of at the track.

I've owned three Sprinters since 2006. One was the older generation and now I have a 2014 6-cylinder diesel that is the ultimate moto build....to me anyways!

I've had zero problems with the engines on any of them. I've only replaced brake pads. Knock on wood.

The 3.5 Ecoboost Transit is ridiculous. The 3.7 is adequate, especially if you aren't towing...but it doesn't feel like a rocketship in comparison.

I've driven both the Sprinters and the Transit, definitely prefer the Transit.

I am going to require some more pics of this build out. Nice job. Did you do this all yourself? Did you post up your progress somewhere?

Yeah, activemx, please post more. I've actually tried to pm you for this because my van is basically the same as yours just empty. Would really like to get some detail shots.

I built it all myself.

Pretty extensive build with sound damping, insullation and 12v/110v power options.

I've got just about everything to keep me comfortable at the track.
