Do some of those people have any idea what they are bidding on? I had a Z50 I should have sold there a few years ago these prices are ridiculous.

Ward's works bike doesn't get above 25K, but two Z50s in a crate hit 50K. Sad. I spent four days there to buy some mini bikes, and never placed a bid. They went for crazy prices this year.

Its not so much that their in the crate its that they are the all chrome 1986 z50s. That is why they are big bucks. One used one by itself went for 12k. The Chrome 86 Z50s are the ones bringing the $$$$$$ and being two in a crate is even better.

That crate has been floating around for years(unless there's two). Do they lose value if you build them? Apparently the more money than sense has money left.

here's several chrome ones for sale, although they are not new in a crate, they are nowhere near $25,000.00 each either. also, unless that crate was kept in a climate controlled facility since they came off the boat, they may just be a little bit rusty.

I thought they looked stupid back when they came out with the chrome version. Guess I’m the stupid one, well second to someone who’d pay that today.

People like in the crate. I don’t get it. Want to roll it around, start it, sit on it, even if I don’t ride it. Oh yeah I don’t get not riding it either.

Of course but I don’t get the in crate madness. A friend had a race only Ducati go down in value once it was removed from the crate, not even started, but uncrated. Hey what’s In that crate? My bike. Oh cool. Want to go riding? No I like it in the crate. Maybe I’ll go down to the shop, get some empty crates and display them. Just tell people the panigale R and the KTM FE are in those crates in my garage.

Trail 90. Cool much more rare than the 70.
Yes it was my dads, and he got caught by the police on it multiple times so my grandparents put it in the barn and put it up. it stayed there till i was born and then i got my hands on it and got the cops called on me. Then back up it went. Couple years later tried it again and fell over and cracked the motor case, grandparents then took motorcycles to dump and we went and got an xr50 and xr 70 a couple days later. lmao, talk about some pissed off grandparents.

If its on mecum its over priced. Mecum is for rich people to get there 15secs of tv fame.

Supply and demand. The generation that grew up with these bikes is now in the position to drop some serious cash to have a new in the crate 30 year old bike.

I am sure to some rich guy there is nothing better than a brand new bike like he had as a kid while riding with his kid. If I had the cash I would probably buy some crazy shit too.

I would want to display the bikes not ride them even so I would save the crate and when it came time to sell off would comes the front wheel and other parts and back in the crate it would go. Most came in the bolt together pot metal crates so easy to do but some old mx bikes like 1980s KXs came in the cheap wood crates you had to destroy to get them out. The late 60s Z50 mini trails were going for big money too around the 12k mark.

So, the CT70's were not hot at Mecum's, like the 50's ? Wonder if this would have brought any real $$ ? Not original, but not too far off. Had it since 1969. Was going to let my Z50 China 110cc motored rail go for a G, rethinking it now.
