Payson, UT (Aug. 5, 2021) – The Rocky Mountain ATV/MC- KTM – WPS team is excited to announce the signing of #12 Shane McElrath. McElrath will contest in the 2022 Monster Energy Supercross Series and the 2022 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Nationals in the premier 450 class. At 26 years of age, McElrath was a rookie this past 2021 season in the 450SX class. A rider with much success in the 250 class both indoors and out, (6 career AMA 250SX wins and 2 career AMA 250MX wins under his belt, along with being the runner up twice in the AMA 250SX West Coast Championship), he is ready to show his skills in the premier class full time.
The Shop
He works hard at the track during the week, and I get the feeling he is still hungry to race and do well.
At least he and his wife can live at home back east now, instead of some shitty one-bedroom first floor apartment in Murrieta like he had to when he was with Star.
Pit Row
A 250 race winner is worth more that a 7th place 450 rider.
This is a good choice for Shane. The bike there is basically a factory bike. Better than an MCR, HEP, etc situation. Plus he’s getting to train back East where he’s comfortable. Next year is a prove it year from him. I’d say he needs to be a top qualifier a couple of times and probably land a top 5 finish in SX. The guy has insane SX speed. He has beat AC, Dylan, and Sexton straight up multiple times. This makes the 450 class even better next year.
He's a 2x Champion and a handful of SX wins
His ask is much higher and he's earned the right to ask or hold out for it
if they can't even take a proper PR pic, makes ya wonder what else they are skimping on.... wonder if BB4 would know??
That being said, they probably should have just skipped the '21 fauxtoshoot altogether.
