Was you there Dr. Steinburg? So you know more than Dr. Bodnar, who was there and evaluated Cameron? Give it a break, there are only 10 other threads discussing Cameron's crash.

Plus you already made the same statements in the Bell Helmet thread not once but twice. Didn't like the responses there so you had to create a whole new thread.

Go ride your bicycle.

I see now his boot got hooked in the frame. I was wondering how he got slung like that. Definately went for a hell of a ride.

Are you referring to Gary Steinberg that is/was the head of brain surgery at Stanford for the last 30 years. Maybe he is related? Well Gary has got nada on Doc B when it comes to being knocked out. Im on my stationary bike BTW. Smile

Haha! Great one dimblewatanabe. When I first saw the crash, I thought he got pitched over the side. Was scared shitless for him. Relieved that he didn't and was 3rd place okay. Luckily he slid when he faceplanted, thus relegating himself to a slightly stupid state of wtf just happened.

Exactly what about that picture confirms he was knocked out?
The fact he lost control of his arms for one second??

His arms flying out like that was due to the centrifugal force of being rotated by the bike with such speed.

I guess the OP never crashed a real dirt bike enough to know how to. Not only was he stunned from the original impact but letting your body go limp is a good way to avoid serious injury. Given the outcome it appears he knew what he was doing.

John Bodnar is an emergency room doctor - he is examining Cameron the the second photo of his IG post for signs of concussion. I trust his judgement.
I’ll ask him when I see him next Wednesday what he looks for in situations like this.

Don't forget the effects of centripetal force. He was being slung around the bike at that point in time, which would naturally cause his arms to extend unless he was purposely trying to cross them on his chest. Have you guys seen video of the occupants of a car when it rolls? The driver's hands usually go left, roof, right, lap, left, roof, right, lap, etc. It can be hard to gain control of your limbs in that scenario.

Centripetal force is one hell of a drug. I also learned today, that every gymnast has been unconscious during their routine.

Imagine the amount of force it took to pull a 150lbs kid up off the ground and fling him like that. It would absolutely be enough to make his arms stretch out like that from the rotational force being pulled around the center of the bike as it flipped too. The kid was moving as soon as he hit the ground.

HERE is the biggest question that remains in my mind-

Did Raggadoo change helmets before he went back to the line?

Causeeee... no way in HELL I (let alone my son) would have raced with the helmet he slammed face first into the over/under ramp with....

Those hands look more centrifugal to me. Brutal crash, and I was scared his first lap back. What an exciting night of racing though.

You know when your arms do that - you are just along for the ride at that point.

You ignorant "know-it-all" kooks need to go back and listen to the PulpMX Show 121 from Feb 18 2013 when Doc Bodnar was on, after Zach Bells 2013 crash.

PulpMX Show 121

Go to 2:06:00 +/-.

There is literally no physician on the planet that has more experience at determining if a concussion has just occurred (in the last 10-120 seconds) than John Bodnar. Why? Because of the sheer number of concussions he sees, and how quickly he sees them. Remember, he is not at the track for just the race. He is there for every practice, and that includes all the B and C practice sessions where riders wad themselves up right and left.

As part of normal ER Physician practice, Doctors do not see a patient at the scene, seconds or at most a few minutes after the impact. They see them much later. 1-2 hours. Maybe a day later. Bodnar sees them within seconds. When he did the 2013 interview...he estimated that he had evaluated 500-700 cases in his capacity as the primary physician evaluating riders for concussions for SX. Today that number is likely way over 1,000. There is literally no one else on the planet that has seen as many concussions right after the impact. John has developed a specialized set of skills that is truly unique. The SX series is incredibly lucky to have someone like him supporting the riders.

If Bodnar let Cameron back out to race...there is very very little chance he had a concussion. The way Cameron ended up riding in the main pretty much verifies that Bodnar made the right call. Just go listen to the interview and educate yourself.

If you rotate that photo 90 degrees, looks like a real nice finish line celebration
