Matthes idea for “B/Mains”

Is the idea of a “B MAIN” the stupidest thing you have ever heard? Well that and his idea of a “moto trainer” olympics where each popular trainers riders race each other in a mxdn format to see who’s best.
Steve has the best podcast no doubt. The production of pulp is top notch and he’s a hard worker. He’s got tons of followers and that gives him a platform to offer good ideas and also has some straight up retarded ideas.
He thinks that one potential way to make supercross better is to have a “b/Main”. Basically the guys that aren’t good enough to make the night show will race in a separate event that will even have a chamipionship. A race that’s a stepping stone to the 450 main event.
This is so stupid i can’t believe it. Actually i can but whatever. Hello Steve we have a race like that already it’s called 250s. I’m just being honest no one gives a flying shit about watching 20th through 40th race for a championship. We should do womansSX to huh? How about a “C main”?

I didn't think it was that bad of an idea, to me it's a hell of a lot better than continuing to do the same shit that is clearly only benefiting a small fraction of the pits. That was just one of his many ideas that they could try because he wants to see the sport grow. But I guess it's ok if only the top riders and promoter of the series are making money while the rest scramble to participate.

If you can't see the bigger picture here, I'm sorry.

What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence.

I don't think too many pros want to be the "B" class champion. Even the 10th-20th place guys.

|

Braaapin' aint easy.

9/28/2017 11:48 AM

Not trying to be the devils advocate, but that is usually where some of the most interesting racing is happening. Watching the "guy"out front is fun, but the guys from 15th back are where it's at.

I would be stoked on a 10 lap B -Main. For my own entertainment, and the Exposure of their sponsors. Good for everyone, well.....

I think some call it the LCQ.

|

9/28/2017 11:51 AM

Maybe you dont understand the concept?

If you take qualifying out of the nightshow so that all the races shown on tv are mains (MEC format) then 2 things happen.

1 there is too much downtime and not enough races.
2. There is no motivation for more than about 25 guys to show up if 22 make it on tv. The rest have noway to make any money thru sponsorship.

As it stands now those guys get alot to track/tv time. Change the format and they get way less.

B main is really LCQ without the Q. Points and championship are not needed just give out prize money.

Don't call it a main. They do that in Endurocross and it is confusing as hell. Logically there can only be 1 main event.

A "consolation race" is a show filler like having KTM 50's rolling around. I'd prefer local 85's.

If they let 88 riders in based on lap times to the quarterfinals, then 44 in the semifinals and 22 in the final they would get some exposure and the fans would get the best of the best racing 3 times and a real main event, not a math equation to figure out who won.

I could see a B-main being very interesting (think LCQ type action) but running a separate championship for it would only call for sandbagging from the 11-22 guys. Think about it, riders would get more attention winning the B-main than placing 13th in the A-main. Then when they're in the championship hunt, they won't try to make the A-main for the rest of the year.

|

9/28/2017 12:01 PM

The beer lines would be astronomically long during a B main.

|

9/28/2017 12:16 PM

More sand bagging for a paycheck would require promoters to shell out more money.

Not gonna happen.

I like supercross just as much as the next guy, but, maybe it's in more trouble than motocross. They constantly want to change the format up. It's boring after the first few rounds and our riders get injured so we end up with a depleted field before motocross starts.

I think that would be a great idea, Endurocross is already doing it in the amateur class and it's been a good addition as far as I'm concerned. Maybe don't have a whole separate championship, but have it be more of an exhibition of the guys who only race one or two local supercross races a year.

Think about it, the B main could be run as the first race of the night, where 1st - 5th or something like that then qualify to bump up to the A heat races like we currently have. It would allow the lesser known guys to actually race rather than piss away money on the entry fee knowing they don't have a shot.

Or, since there is a lot of times barely enough riders to fill both heats, run the B mains right before the A mains, where 1st - 3rd or something move on to the A mains right after. Almost like a LCQ, but maybe 10 laps for 250s and 15 for 450s.

Don't shoot it down just yet, I think it could be pretty damn cool.

Well first off the B MAIN would be for the guys that don’t make the main. We are talking, for the most part guys who are WAY WAY off the pace. 10+ seconds a lap slower. You really wanna see guys roll the whoops and double the triples? Not me. Everyone is different so I’m not gonna bag on the guys that like it but do you watch the 50s race, do you watch women race.
It’s unfortunate that these guys go all the way there and don’t make it but i know people over the years that didn’t have a prayer of making it yet still go. For what?
As far as it gaining more time for sponsors and I don’t know how you can claim that. Tv time? So when Donnie Dingledoo is coasting around out there people are like noticing his graphics? Sponsorship in moto is a joke unless your the headliner on the semi truck. You can’t even see the bikes or riders. I wouldn’t pay .50 to sponsor a placement on a rider or bike. Your way better off having a inflatable geico lizard on the stadium floor than a sticker on a bike
Maybe a B main is cool for riders to get track time and have fun but for people to watch and be exicted, nope. I would way rather watch 3 10 min Motos of 1-20

There is a lot of filler crap in the production. I wouldn't mind some of that being replaced with any form of racing.

I bet being the B Class Champion is worth more in TV time and sponsorship dollars than finishing 4th thru 22nd in the A Main!

Look how many people want to be the C Class champion at Lorettas.

A different industry guy suggested a "dash for cash" race in SX might be quite entertaining. Take the 10 top guys that didn't make the night show and have them race 4 laps for a $1000! I would say it would be much entertaining than the KTM50 race!

You are looking at the 50's from a entertainment stand point and quality of racing.

That KTM Jr event does more , it touches many people on different levels.

Fans of SX are buying tickets and turning on the TV to see the best of the best, some good racing, some good crashes as well. This is the pinnacle of the sport with 40k spectators in the best stadiums in the country.

While it is a noble cause to help the little guys, focusing on the big guys is why this sport has been successful.

Even if the dash for cash was for free entry to the next 2 to 4 rounds instead of cash

|

9/29/2017 11:20 AM

If the B mains are for the ones that didn't make the main that night, then ok have a B main. But what if some of the same guys make it the next week? There is no way they could make it a championship because different people make the mains each week in the 15-22 spot.

Everyone that makes the night show gets money, $965 to be exact. They make more if they make the main of course.
