MURRIETA, Calif. – KTM North America, Inc. is pleased to announce that Marvin Musquin has locked in a deal to remain with the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team through the 2022 AMA Supercross Championship. Entering his 12th season with the U.S. Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team in 2022, the French rider has become synonymous with the READY TO RACE brand thanks to his top level of performance and commitment within the sport. Enjoying success at the last two rounds of the 2021 AMA Supercross Championship, the 31-year-old has proven that he still has plenty to give as he charges full-steam ahead towards a career-first 450SX title come January.

Marvin Musquin: “I’m really happy to extend my contract for another year making 12 years racing in the U.S. and 14 years in total with the with the Red Bull KTM family! It’s no secret that everyone on the team is like family to me. It will be another fun challenge working with the new bike, which will be a lot more work but that’s exciting! I look forward to focusing my efforts on the supercross series and to the supercross schedule being back to normal starting back at Anaheim in January!"

Ian Harrison – Red Bull KTM Team Manager: “Marvin has been an integral part of our team for many years and I am really happy we can continue working together for another season. He has achieved a lot with our team and been a part of the many milestones we have reached as a group in the U.S. over the last 12 years. Through highs and lows, he has overcome many obstacles and injuries throughout the years and all the while he fights back and shows he still has the desire to win – as he demonstrated during the 2021 Supercross season.”

Roger De Coster – Director of Motorsports, North America: “Marvin will be back for another SX season and I think he wants to prove to us that he is like red wine and gets better with time. After serious knee surgery two years ago, Marvin worked hard to recover and he is back in top shape, so we feel that and after finishing strong this year in SX with a win and second in the last two races, he will be back capable to perform at a top level."

I do not support SX-only deals so that's a thumbs down from me.

I support riders doing what they see best for them, and would rather see Musquin in SX only instead of not at all so that's a do whatever the hell you want from me.

He gets 32 at the end of the year, I think this is a farewell Tour? And after the SX' series he can do some local French SX/MX races and MXGP race...

I just don't want that to become the norm, as I think the overall health of the sport needs both series to remain relevant. It's not that I don't want him to "do what's best for him" I just think that could easily turn into a pattern.

in all fairness, people said the same after MC did it, and Windham, and Stew...

Very few top level racers get the luxury of being able to do SX only. I don't think this will be a pattern at all as long as all the top factory supported race teams require participation in both series.

I agree with the first part of your post. Definitely closing out his career.

I don't see a problem with it. Justin Brayton has been on an SX only schedule for years. It allowed him to extend his career and continue to make a living riding his dirt bike.

Besides, it's not like he's taking someone's ride. He's still competitive.

Dude, guys have been doing SX only deals since the MC era. I don't think Musquin doing it is going to change the future of the sport...

It was probably SX only or Retirement so if anything you should be glad guys do deals like this, look how long it has extended Brayton's career.

Does this mean KTM is a 3 man team for SX with Plessinger inbound?

Cool for Marv, not a fan of SX only though.

Marvin didn't waste the best years of his life being SX only.

I didn't like it when MC did it and I just don't like it when any rider/team does it. It's nothing against that person or team but I am just not a fan of it. I am a big fan of Malcolm and I don't like him not doing the outdoors. I could see it start to become more common and I just don't think that would be the direction I'd like things to go. And Brayton, Mookie, MM (or whoever) to be able to prolong their career is great, but at the same time it still opens the door for more and more people to potentially skip the Outdoors or de-value the importance of that series. That's all I'm saying. I don't mean to make it like I'm hating on anyone who does it, because I am not.

Agreed. I say if he wants to do one final SX season before retiring, he's earned it.

Nah...at the end of the day...

I've got no problem with anyone racing the stuff they wanna race. Last time I checked, this is a sport...or a lifestyle...or something we do for fun. Right?

Malcolm doing what he wants to do and getting paid for it is fine with me. IF the sponsors are happy...& the team is happy? More power to them.

Besides all that, is Malcom SX only at Rockstar?

Good for Marvin.

Pretty sure there were a couple vital insiders claiming him to Rockstar.

He’s at the end of his career, he has been running at the sharp end of the field since 2009. He has earned a SX only farewell tour.

Whatever you think, he can win races and with the three of them ktm should be on the leaderboard one way or the other…..smart move.

After a career at the elite level, working 60-80 hours a week and being top 10 globally at your job, I am sure you will also want a 50-60 hours a week when you turn 50-55. Some can keep grinding like in their youth, but no everyone has the same genetic.

I am just glad he didn't call it a day and that we will see him next year. (and maybe next one depending on how he stays into it. The talent and work ethic are there, it just quite depends on how he feels)

Personally, I don't care that he was SX only, but you can't deny that it had a big impact on his career, the rides he could've potentially had, and the money he could've made.

At the end of the day, it's his choice and as long as he can live with the decisions he's made, that's all that matters.
