Marvelous Marvin has to be feeling "not so great" in the KTM pits

I would guess. At A1 he was certainly the top dog on the team. Now that Webb has stepped it up that is no longer true I would think. Kinda feel for the guy. 2nd half of the series coming up and maybe we'll see Marvelous Marv back to his old self.

I was thinking last night how ironic it would be if team tactics come into play later and Marvin runs interference for Coop.

|

2/24/2019 9:10 AM

Looks like Webb doesn't need any help to me. Tomac might need some though.

|

2/24/2019 9:13 AM

Maybe a little bit nerved by adding Cooper "The French don't want none" Webb to the team which seems questionable .at first. But that may have been the strategy. By Baker standards, MM25 is starting to get up there in age as well which goes back to team KTM's strategy? Who knows.

He isn't racing bad, just not the same speed or intensity as he had last year, easy to speculate.

Kind of like your newly hired assistant gets the promotion you were waiting for...

The worst part probably is spending the whole week next to Webb, pretending everything's just fine..

|

2/24/2019 9:19 AM

His speed is there...just tips over or makes small mistakes and spends valuable time recovering. Too close in the top 5 for that kind of error.

I think he has a win in him this year.

|

2/24/2019 9:22 AM

Almost 30 years old, downside is on imo. We'll see.

|

2/24/2019 9:26 AM

I keep thinking every week its his turn or Kennys, but after last night im not so sure. Coop has definitely taken the lead role at this point.

Baker burnout.

Nothing new in moto - recall when Barcia made Webb look silly when they both rode blue bikes.

|

2/24/2019 9:32 AM

Right.
Except I don't think Webb had to meet Barcia everyday at the factory.

He’s a better rider than webb I think.

I just think he has too much on his mind since his brothers accident and he lacks killer intensity like what forkner and Tomac showed last night.

Marvs a top five rider in my opinion.

|

Maybe Marv doesn't like the pressure of being the number 1 guy. Just like the good old days when Dungey was number 1!

If Tomac is “feeling” it again, then there should be some good racing between him and Webb. Last night was just what Tomac needed and he gained back some of the points he lost last week.

Certainly. Top 3, more weekends than not.

I feel he and Tomac are in the same boat so far this season. Having not trained as much as they would like during the off season, both are far spottier than they would like performance-wise. Both have shown flashes of speed and brilliance along with some true WTF-headscratcher moments. Whether mentally, physically, equipment related or a combination thereof we'll never know bc they'll never say - not 100% candidly, anyway.

Tomac is on the ascent and with the exception of last night, Marvin has been too. He'll get there - he always does. Just might be harder against a healthy Tomac and the mysterious re-emergence of 250 champ Cooper Webb.

Check the points standings and tap the brakes. There is a LOT of racing left.

Seriously. People around here are so damned hair-trigger. Last week we were putting a fork in Tomac. This week, it's Musquin and Roczen. Everyone needs to chill out. The points are still super close. The sky is not falling.

Easy to see the negative points of a rider currently sitting 3rd of the championship, only 12 points down ...

"he is old"
"he is on the downfall"
"he is done"
"he is burned out"

As everybody knows he came at A1 with like 3 days on the bike after his knees injury. I was not expecting him to be that good in the first half of the championship, so who knows, actually it may be his year ... but Tomac is just finding his groove too ...

I would agree with you if he was like 12th in the championship right now, I would also start to worry a bit ...

I will say this... Marvin has been in the 450 class for what? 3 years now? He has 2? 3? wins... Coop stepped up his game and in 1/4 the season has more wins in the 450's than Marvin his WHOLE 450 career. To me, its a no brainer.

|

2/24/2019 11:56 AM

I would love to know the contracts. I'm sure Marvin is making the big salary. And I wonder if cooper got lucky and signed a low salary with big win bonus contract like Davi millsaps did a few years ago.

Which leads me to believe that the Yamaha 450 Webb was on was/is a pile of shit.

bagget would have won the last moto if the bike was a diff color. looked like he was cruising

Baggett is so mystifying to me. Either battling up front with the best, or stuck in the bottom 10 or below without gaining position. All on the same night, no less. Just cannot figure the guy out.

The guy changes everything he did the prior year and we are going with the bike excuse? C'mon...

Musquin has 8 450 main event wins.

Marvin needs to get more aggressive and stop being so nice. Riding behind roadblock JS17 was not good for him. His starts have really suffered as well this for some reason.

I was called names when I said Coop would be top KTM back in November. Look at him now...
