After the race Malcolm was asked what he thought about his level of fitness. He said it was good for the heat race but he needs to race himself into shape for the mains.

After he won the 250East title he said he was skipping the outdoors to focus on training for the 450SX season. What kind of training did he do all summer? You would think his fitness level would pretty good after working on it for 7-8 months.

I want to believe he was talking about being in "race shape" which cannot be done without racing, but it did sound like he was out of shape, straight off the bench.

Yes he looked out of shape when he did out run Barcia at euro Supercross events.. Barcia does only 2 cycling tours a day.. Mookie must have been just pool side all summer.

It looks like all of the top riders come out of the gate and set a blistering pace high heart rates, nerves, holeshot dicing for position. Hard to train for that stuff just doing motos, especially by yourself. Most guys are probably forced to ride slightly out of their comfort zones to keep pace. At some point they calm down gain control of themselves and then again push the comfort zone. I am it's thinking it is more figuring out his own body and comfort zones at race pace, then actual conditioning.

Can people just be transparent and name these threads "the Stewarts don't train, I just assume..." so I don't click on em? Selfish I know, but thanks in advance.

1) holding your breath
2) gripping to tight
3) doubting yourself
4) putting it in the first turn
5) doubting your set up for this track
6) thinking to much
7) line choices
8) having Matthes as your mechanic
9) having a 250 rider Snapchatting your girl
10) worrying about getting in the Chase
11) wondering if Barcia will beat Peick when he comes back
12) your new Seven gear is to tight, causing you to worry about looking fat
13) scared your gonna get caught and penalized
14) trying to post your favorite pictures of yourself Over the triples

All things that can affect your race fitness that cannot be practiced at home.

Perhaps has to do with the Seven gear sizing a little bit? That stuff looks "small" on many riders.

Race shape is different from just riding at home. Kind of like Tomac with arm pump. You know he ain't getting arm pump at home doing his motos but then come race time it happened.

You know...if Mookie can do that well, right off the couch so to speak...he'll be a top-5 threat in a couple of weeks.
