Who are we going to get in 2022? I say he is going to surprise us next year. While others are going to doubt him and say he won’t put in the work. Thoughts.

Love me some Mookie threads. Kinda wondering why he didn't jump on the Husky for the Nationals this year. He keeps on improving, and most importantly finished the year in one piece.

I was curious about that to, regarding racing outdoors for another team. I know with Star it was supercross only but I was wondering if his contract does not expire until some time after outdoors.

I will probably get trashed for this, but it is my opinion.

I don't think Mookie is willing to put in as much work as he needs to really be competitive. If he is working with Aldon for 2022 I will be curious to see how that goes.

Also, I don't know why he isn't racing the nationals. It was the downfall of JS7, thought they would have learned from that. Yes, I realize Mookie "about died" when he rode nationals years ago. However, don't you go out and try improve your physical conditioning/hydration/w.e. to make it 30+2 (x2) for a day?

I'm sorry, but I just don't have much sympathy for professional athletes, they are paid to perform, so put in the effort to perform at your best. I don't think Mookie has ever really done that.

Man, if Mookie truly gets it together, I've always felt he could be faster than James ever was... can't wait to see what Aldon does with him when putting him into a hardcore championship mode.....

Mookie is paid to race SX. And the last 2 (possibly 3 but we wont ever know because the broken femur) he looks like he was in plenty shape for what hes paid to do.

His body was pretty messed up from when he got sick that outdoor season. For a guy like him, I can understand that the risk/reward might not be worth it to line up when he can make more money doing overseas races and enjoy it instead of grinding it out for 10-12th place finishes outdoors.

"I realize mookie "about died" when he rode nationals, but I dont know why he isnt racing them". Sounds like a pretty good reason if you ask me lol

Ummmm. Faster? Getting in shape is one thing. But at JS7 level of speed and faster……. what big brother did on a motorcycle is something we may never see again, including speed. Either way, can’t wait to see a fit Mookie for sure. Definitely will be pulling for him. Sport needs him around.

Big James has said many times. Malcolm has more natural talent than James. It’s just a matter if he wants it.

5-10 in the main events like always? I mean the guy has speed but he never has those late race charges that set some apart from the others. I don't see him cracking a healthy top 5, possibly top 7...

And a whole lot less concussions. He seems to be able to find the edge and not win or crash.

One thing to also keep in mind: Malcolm is already older than James was when he won his last AMA race at High Point 2014. He'll be 29 at the start of SX.

Personally, I would love to see him step up and win a race or more next season. Will be interesting to see what he does with that bike and the Baker factory training.

This is what I was referring to.... imo mookie has the natural ability to do things even James couldn't do.... baker just might unlock that fury... we will see...

Age has always been the topic of discussion for SX/MX. Who at 30 is or has still won. Zacho!!! KR, ET and DF are all 27-8. Barring serious injuries could see some the top guys not retire till 30-32. Such a brutal sport when guys say “I was worn down and so broken up, had to hang it up at 26”.

Well....did he go to the Bakers Factory or not? Is that a statement?...or a question/rumor? Punctuation can make a big difference. Anyway, referring to the title as it is: 1) I have a hard time believing he hired Aldon when he can just call his brother....or 2) If he did hire Aldon, That's surprising! It will be interesting to see how his results change....and I wonder how James feels about that?

Agreed with this.

I like this move by Malcolm. You don't go to a trainer like Aldon unless you're willing to put the work in. Think what you want about Aldon's efficiency, but he seems to be very strict on his riders. And some of the riders he's taken on are riders that might struggle with motivation outside of having someone babysit their diet and training program. I like Malcolm, and his willingness to give this a shot is encouraging.

Wouldn’t the whole point of working with Baker be to try to increase his ability to charge at the end of a race? I can’t see how that aspect of his game wouldn’t improve with the Baker program. Add in that and it’s reasonable to think that his average finish could improve by at least 2-3 spots, which could result in an overall top 3 type of season.

Yes there are a lot of “ifs” involved in that, but none of them are really far fetched.

Haha. I havent actually talked with him. Just discussed with some people that may or may not have ridden with him. I guess he can go really fast for 20 minutes

Mookie has admitted that he never “wanted it” like James did…wasn’t willing to put in the work like James was. Maybe that’s changed.

This could be the standout storyline of 2022 imo. He's shown plenty that he is the "best of the rest". I feel like this program could level him up into being a consistent podium guy with the threat of a win on the right night. I'd love to see him become a title contender (he's done it before), but I feel like he will fall into that Jason Anderson zone.. better than the rest but not quite on pace with the title contenders. At least next year.. year 2 in the program could be a standout with year 1 as a confidence builder.

No one will ever be flat out faster than James in comparison. He was something special.
