Watching On Any Sunday last night, I was paying more attention this time then I did years ago when I bought the movie. Then I
was more into the multiple style helmets in the same race, duct tape and "safety" gear by the riders then the Malcolm Smith's career. I didn't follow him too much as he was before my time , but with success in the ISDE, Baja Races, trials etc, it seemed like he was exceptional in multiple disciplines, even his first Widow Maker Hill Climb on board a stock Husky . Dude looks like he always had fun and what would you call him ? By the way, the equipment still floors me.

Also one of the coolest guys you'll ever meet and he still has that same sort
of moto enthusiasm you'd expect from a 20 something.

Shot some stuff of him for Dirt Rider last year. Here's an outtake. Candid while they
were doing some interview stuff with him. He has stories for DAYS!

I had the opportunity to talk with him on a few occasions and always enjoyed his insight. One of the greats in the industry.

He is the RAM. Ride Anything Master. His exploits and Bruce Brown's narrative made me a rider for life.

I've always argued that Malcolm Smith was the best "all around" rider to ever throw a leg over a motorcycle. I know there are super fast motocrossers out there but how many have gold medals from a ISDT event?

Definitely one of my moto heroes. I wore MSR gear for the longest time because of him.

He was the guy I looked up too when I set my mind to race and win in as many disciplines on motorcycles. I made it to the pro class(money classes) in all that I tryed except MX. That's why I am still doing it. Won't quit till I win money or die trying.

He's a bad-ass for sure. I worked for him for a couple years when I was just out of high school.

I became an even bigger fan when I loaded his bike and gear one time and discovered the bonus fiberglass plate built into one of them...a guard installed after a badly broken leg.

absolutely...

..but if we are talking about the GOAT, and guys from that era in general, I don't know...It's hard for me to forget about Torsten Hallman, or even Dick Mann for that matter. All three of them were incredible and helped shape off-road riding/racing in this country.

In my time.......we look at guys like Malcolm and call him a BFD.

Bad....Mother.....Fucker!

Always will be.

I'm a 35yr riding vet in the sport of MX.....and Malcolm makes me feel like a first day noob to this sport as far as what he's accomplished. Like I said.....BFD!
