With MXoN being held in the US, we are very capable of fielding not only a team that can win, but with the remaining riders that aren't picked we could field our Puerto Rico team with a stacked roster that could probably come in 2nd or 3rd. Why isn't there more discussion of this happening and will we see a Puerto Rico team thats stacked with our alternates!? I don't see why we wouldn't take advantage of this...

Puerto Rico Possibility:

MX1: Blake Bagget
MX2: Alex Marten
Open: Jason Anderson (If healthy, he did win the only moto he has raced in at MXoN)

It’s a crime for Marvin to not be there. I’m all for him being on ANY team. He deserves it, in my opinion.

How about reward the guy who is racing gp's. Covington deserves the 250 ride in my opinion.

Nope. Last year Puerto Rico sent an all-American team (Weltin/Sanayei/Starling). The FIM's only requirements for selection are that riders;

1) Be a citizen of the country
2) Have not already competed for two other countries
3) Have the approval of the given country's governing body

Puerto Rico is a US territory (and thus, are American citizens), but is allowed to compete as it's own country since it's recognized as such by the IOC.

Thank you for the explanation. I wondered why they got to have a team. With that said, is Guam recognized? :-)

Yes; their FIM-affiliated governing body is GMAC.

No one else feels the need/has the chance to send a second team. It's one thing having a Puerto Rico team made up of American youngsters like it has been for the past few years, but if you're gonna basically pick two teams with stars it makes a mockery of it

Its a dumb rule and it should be removed. If Puerto Rico is the USA then they should not have their own team. If they have their own team the riders should need to be born there. As it stands riders who have never even been there can race for Puerto Rico. Yep that's a broken rule.

If Marv goes for PR and they somehow win it all, I'm sure you can expect some rule changes for 2019 mxdn.
