May have missed it...have they released a count of the number of spectators for the MXdN? It looked packed from where I was sitting (in front of my TV)...just curious how packed it really was..

No official count but some say 60+. I think it was more than that.

There were a lot of damn people there, but they all appeared to be crammed into a few locations.

How will Maggiora be laid out for spectating? Obviously won't be able to line the fences I'm guessing.

They are extending the track into new Land at Maggiora to get everyone in, was rammed for the Gp and it rained on Raceday. Ernee was too small for the amount of people there. Infrastructure was fine but there wasn't enough room inside to view

Even if they do release the numbers you can bet it will arrived at by using core math....

Well, at least they made up for some money losers, like the USGP and a couple others.

There is a crowd shot and a track diagram of the new expanded Mahgioria circuit in the MXdN behind the scenes thread

I agree Edge of Adhesion, that was unreal. I couldn't imagine the energy riders pull from a crowd like that.

Tracks set in natural amphitheaters (Ernee I guess would be a reverse amphitheater) are the best IMHO. I love the atmosphere at MXDN, it doesn't get no better.

The British GP at Matterley Basin is a kind of amphitheater but the crowd are spread around the track, so the atmosphere is too. But at Ernee where you have all the crowd in a single block the atmosphere is concentrated.

It's a shame MXoN is only once a year but that's what makes it so special right?

80,000 bahahahahaha

It was a big crowd (maybe 25,000) but to claim 80,000? Bigger than two times Anaheim Stadium or Petco Park?

The main bank the crowd stands on is only 700' long by 150' deep. That would be about 1.35sqft per person. I know there were other areas of the crowd, but the venue isn't big enough for 80,000 people let alone 30,000 people. I'd like to see the parking lot of 25,000+ cars to get those 80,000 people there.

28,000 on the Saturday, the same 28,000 + a further 24,000 on Sunday = 80,000 total over the weekend. They had to close the camping area's off on Friday evening because they were full, plus the camping went on for miles and miles plus car park. Hopefully someone will have an aerial photo of the venue?
There was probably 5,000 never made it to watch the races Sunday because they were so wasted, hungover, from partying so hard for a solid 48 hours flatout.
Sales of two stroke oil for all the chainsaws (minus chains & bar) probably peaked over the days leading up.
It was crazy.....................like Mad Max thunder dome up in camping..................Thankfully we were parked in riders living area by pit's but you could hear noise from pit bike racing, chain saws all night!

Note Photo is early Saturday and shows only about half of them

28,000 is a way more reasonable estimate for Sunday based on the venue size.

And don't get me wrong, I think it was a huge crowd. I just hate the fuzzy math that tries to make it sound even bigger when it's already a big turnout.

Plus the riders deserve a cut of that 28,000 x 70 Euro (Sunday Only price) = 1.9 Million Euros. And they really deserve a cut of that 80,000 x 90 Euro (weekend ticket) = 7.2 Million Euro. I know the French tax system would want their cut. Silly

Attendance was a total of 52,000 on the Sunday, made up of the 28,000 who bought the weekend ticket, 24,000 who paid for Sunday only or came on the day.
Don't judge the crowd size by that one banking! There's loads more area's for spectators along start straight, Skybox, VIP areas. There were probably more spectators on the top at the opposite side of the circuit than there were at USGP Glen Helen.
An official told me there's approx 7,000 free passes given out for riders, teams, staff, trade etc plus over 1200 workers from the club, security, marshalls, food concession staff etc.
One thing it was MASSIVE!, a great event that sets the bar even higher for Maggiora and Glen Helen to rise too................

Funny, during the race discussion thread we were talking about how well attended the event was, and how Youthstream will come up with some outrageous # they pull out of their asses like they do for every event.

btw: on the broadcast Paul Malin said 60k
