When you test what you write about some days don't go so well. Saturday at REM Jody took a spill on the National track and broke his arm. He spent more than 10 hrs at one hospital and was not seen so he went to another and was cast. No news if surgery needed. Hoping for a good heal and back to riding in no time for Jody. Wishes sent.

Mark....I looked for you when I was at GH a few weeks ago. I was there for the otmx round. The gal at the gate said you were probably going to be floating around dome where. Went and checked a couple more times , but never did run into. Maybe next year.

Sucks to hear. Hope he heals up quick.

Sean Collier had a get off on Saturday as well and fractured his C1. Saw he had feeling and all that, just a fractures C1 and a concussion. Sounded like a rough day at Glen Helen

Gotta love ERs...sat in one for 12 hours about nine years ago with a shattered talus, broken tib and fib, torn achilles (foot facing backwards), dislocated shoulder, broken humerus, and a blown out shoulder joint... LaughingBlush

Sorry to hijack! ML. How was your recovery back to riding from the talus injury? I am down right now with broken to tib/fib and talus. Was also horribly displaced. According to my ankle specialist my talus is 100 percent chance of necrosis, no blood flow at all since crash.

And of course hoping for a speedy recovery the the previously mentioned Moto Bros!

You editors should befriend an orthopedic doctor. And I'm not kidding- I know pro racers who have orthopedic doctors in their phone contacts. When they have an injury, they call their orthopedic dr and meet them at the hospital.

Surprisingly well, they were mostly worried about the condition of the growth plates in my legs and thought those wouldn't work anymore. My ankle/talus required ten external pins to hold it together once they put the puzzle back together...they took some small shards out...I had plates for my tib and fib. Total surgery time for shoulder/arm and ankle/lower leg was a bit over eight hours.

I had two ER surgeons that saw my Talus injury and said it would need to be fused, the third that I requested took a shot on it and I was walking four months later. It took nearly 16 months for the swelling to fully go-away and I know have about 85-90% range of motion.

Gotcha. I am on my third Ortho surgeon. All have said the same. The have plated the talus for now and said as the bone degrades we will do a fusion that involves a titanium rods from heel to shin. Needless to say I am not really stoked about the outcome. First two docs refused to operate on it. One being a long time family friend who is a 30 year vet to Ortho Surgery.

If he spent more time spell checking his magazine instead of doing that silly riding stuff, people might bitch about him a little bit less and he'd have less chance of getting hurt..........!

I can say that between Jody and Rick Sieman, the mid 70s to early 80s was a great time to be a kid in love with MX/dirt bikes and waiting at the mailbox for each monthly issue of their respective magazines.

Holy crap! Were you in Afghanistan? That's about the only place I can think of where patients with worse injuries would take precedence over yours for 12-freaking-hours.

Such a bummer!! It was ugly - an uphill swap to a stop at the highest point, then a tumble half way back down. Then the real mayhem started.

I've learned at Loma Linda (the closest hosp to Glen Helen and a most excellent trauma care center at that) the hot tip is to go to an urgent care center to get your xrays then go home rest and call your doc for an appt. (If your bones aren't sticking out)

I drove my bro to the ER there once in full gear, bike in the back, obvious broken tib/fib, no parking so i pull up to the ER in the No Parking Ambulance lane - he gets out and literally crawls 20 yards to the front door in all his riding gear while I go park, I wish I took a pic with the ER in the background while he crawiled. Injuries suck ER's suck even more. Get well soon Jody.

I was there racing too and got the aftermath on video. Jody somehow crashed up 2/3 the way up Mt St Helen and got tagged by a bike going by. My friend Dan was the third rider to get caught up in it and the mayhem ensued. At least ten bikes were involved. Wasn't cool to hear Jody got injured but the melee afterward was comedy to watch. Heal up Jody!

Not always, they might end up putting you in chair in a hallway. If you are knocked out and altered or bleeding you will get more detailed evaluation but a broken arm only will get you a lower priority in treatment.
