Anyone know who won the rookie of the year honors in Motocross this season? I have seen a lot to do about last year's rider but not much about this year?

When do they hand that award out? At the AMA Banquet in Jan?

Funny normally this would be known by now?

Probably Dylan Ferrandis. He finished on the podium multiple times and even won some. I wouldn't consider him a rookie, because of his experience, but for a first year U.S. rider he tops the list.

We were supposed to hand out the Rookie of the Year Award at the presentation awards at Lucas Mansion the Sunday after the Ironman finale but Chase and his team were unable to attend as they were already headed to the MXGP of the USA in Florida.

An announcement on Racer X seems like the norm for past recipients too.

How did he get Rookie of the year over Dylan Ferrandis? Ferrandis actually won races.

He's French......

Herlings definitely gets my vote, also isn't that the highest number to ever win a 450 main? Give him another check for that!

It's not a "1st year in the USA" award. It's a rookie award. Ferrandis is not even close to being a rookie in professional motocross.

Ferrandis has been racing professionally in Europe since 2010, and racing MX2 in the GPs since 2012. How is that a rookie?

Because I thought it was only AMA races that they considered you a rookie for the series. I know he's not actually a rookie you guy

Yes but why wasn't it announced? Where's the hoopla that normally surrounds this award? It seems like it just went unnoticed.

It's why i brought it here. this place shudders when certain people speak and this is a deafening silence. I think if there is an award like this, specially for a up and coming rider it would be a "bigger" deal. It seemed to be last few years. Now yep I wouldn't normally care, except this kid grew up here and we have seen him since he was 3.5 year old.

So yep mr klein it does matter he is family to us.

It's such a hard profession, and promoters and even AMA have had it's share of mistakes, this isn't a big "mistake" but more a missed opportunity for all involved. Same thing happened with a similar award last winter. Lack of or bad communication on these kind of things devalue it's worth, and for a rider coming up through the ranks these things matter.

Thanks E for the comment. I just hadn't got back here to type the rest of it.

I bitched about this last year. Only because I think/thought that riders who are coming up into the sport and earn this kind of award should be recognized..

The reason for this update.

Glad to see AMA and Feld stepped up and recognized and promoted this award in a professional fashion in front of the crowd at the last Supercross race.

Many on this board will chastise and bitch and moan about the powers to be. I am one of those as well but when they do well, nothing is said or talked about.

This clearly is a reversal from what happened last Summer.

Hope the summer program can "catch" up and do the same for this year's Rookie of the Year.

These special Riders can only win this award once.

Excellent Job and hat's off to Benny Bloss and Chase Sexton!
