Would be interested in how close se to stock Stanks bike was? Cone valves, trax? carb/porting? 250 or 300? Mike browns 300 setup would be interesting too. Is Ronnies CR really running stock suspension?

The 1st gen (97-99) AF CR2 is considered by many to be one the worst CR models made. I can only imagine what could've been had he been on a well prepped 3rd gen CR instead...

Mike ended up on a 300 because that's all they could get together at the last min, same with Sipes. Mike told me he wishes he had actually been on the 250 instead. Ronnie's machine has Merge suspension, a FMF pipe and a Rekluse manual clutch. Other than that it's stock...

Pretty sure Ron's bike has engine work done. His Instagram story couple of days ago was at a shop and showing a dyno chart comparing last year's HP with this year's HP.

According to "The Mechanic" it was all stock and he rebuilt it after it blew up this week. Said it was stock when they bought it and never had a crank till it died the other day. Got rebuilt with OEM level replacement parts.

Good fuel, jetting and a pipe.

I have been reading up on the CR's ever since I rode a 2000 model 250 the other week, people saying that the 98's vibrate and won't turn etc, well that 2000 I rode had zero vibration and turned very, very well!, so Honda must have really turned that bike around for the next gen?.

Anyways, Uncle Ron made that bike fly, I had a ball watching him!, fast forwarded Million-Marv.

Goes to show you a good rider can go fast on just about anything with 2 wheels and a motor.

Steinkes 250sx looked like it pulled Villos SR250 a touch in some sections. The SR looked like it hit a bit hard in some sections though.

chassis sucks yeah, but the motors were pretty potent. I have a 95 model that runs really well. I like it better than the 02-07 motors. it was the same from '92-'01 with the exception of different porting on various years and in '98 (I think) they went to a flat top piston (instead of domed) with a smaller combustion chamber.
I thought it was funny how Honda's supposedly worst model cr250 was running right with KTM's latest and greatest. Just shows how stagnant 2 strokes really are/were.

Have owned CR250's going back to an 87 to the last yr of production in 07. Most of them have had mods & can say with certainty the 02-07 case reed engine makes more power. PC is just one example of a good engine tuner that did the R&D & have exceptional specs for these engines.

BTW Honda went to a flat top piston in 97 (owned one) & a good friend had a 96 at the time that had a domed piston. Honda went back to a domed piston for the 05-07 models.

I had/raced a 97 cr250 in 99-00. I just remember it being harsh, vibrated like crazy, and fast as hell. I was 15 yo. What was my father thinking.

I would say everyone on a twostroke was running MRX02 as it's the best twostroke fuel you can buy. Unless reed hit up the Yamaha warehouse and got some pre 2004 twostroke fuel they had laying around. I run the MRX02 in my 06 cr and what a difference it makes (if jetted properly)
