I don't ride fast enough to break wheels. I'm very budget minded when I ride... That's what I'm telling myself at least. Ya that's it!

Ktm spoke nipple is nowhere near as solid as Jap bikes
100 present agree . I have a husky . Great bike . Hubs and rims are good . Even the spoke s are good but the nipples are terrible .

IMO the husky wheels are quite good broadly speaking but come with inconsistent spike tension and occasionally get built with spokes that are too short. I’m told this is more common on KTMs. Ensure correct spoke length and tension properly and they hold up quite well in my experience. Run them as they come from the factory and it’s a crapshoot.

Good thing I was never fast enough to break spokes! I get the frustration though.

I’ve got stock husqavarna wheels on 22 fc 450. I’m 6”2 215 lbs. I don’t touch my wheels other than tighten a few spokes here and there. Not one issue with my wheels . Not one.

What level do you ride at? Just curious because I'm pretty much the same size and height as you. I've never blown a wheel, but I pretty much stopped riding when the cheater....I mean 4 stroke bikes took over.

I got my pro card in 2011, I’ve since stop the pursuit of that goal but I ride a lot. Like 3-5 days a week depending.

Managed to taco the front on my yz250 and flat spot the rear. Just depends on where you ride how you ride.
Fake Excels and they still hold up better than KTM wheels. Let’s not forget the front wheel recall a handful of years ago for KTM wheels exploding due to too thin of spokes. Weight savings comes at a cost.

96 yz owners can agree to that statement when thier rear hubs broke on some of them. No recall done what's your constant dig at ktm, Japanese do it too. Some of those wheels have what look like a bit of time on them.

If I was racing on that level I would have upgraded my wheels by now.

My 04 kx125 loved that bike
But it blew the output shaft bearing that was pressed into the left hand side of the center case. Only 10 hrs into brand new. Zero warranty I paid for it to fix it. Then in 05 kawie quietly updated the case with a better oiling channel and never mentioned it and then superceded the parts numbers.

Where was Yamaha when in 07 quietly updated the shift stopped lever on the yz125. No mention of it in new model updates. Only owner word of mouth got it out there.

No dig at KTM. Just pointing out a well known quality issue from the past to indicate it would be no surprise if there’s a quality issue. I never said other brands of bikes don’t break. No need to defend your favorite brand.

There’s a couple jumps on the track where they’re launching it and basically landing fiat. Maybe change that section up next year or build up the landing

As the owner of a KTM, i've had a front wheel blow out because of the spokes. You have to realize why the KTM is the lightest bike out there - they have trimmed weight wherever they thought was possible. And one area is the spoke thickness or gauge. Compare a stock KTM spoke with a stock Japanese spoke and you'll see why they are breaking.
I've also had wires in the wire harness break because they use the smallest gauge wire possible also.
Not that this is a bad thing always, but you pay the price for being the lightest bike sometimes.

I have found with my last 5 ktm”s, the spokes just don’t stay tensioned after you smack something hard or come up short on a jump, like we all occasionally do….if you are not super diligent with spoke maintenance, you will have a failure at some point…I actually had a KTM service manager tell me to put locTite on the spokes & nipples! Meanwhile I have a few 90”s Honda CR”s that I ride and the stock wheels and spokes are solid…

I agree with the premise and the spoke issue. I build motorsport harnesses day in day out and the most common sized wire I use is smaller than any of the wires on my 350, so I don't think it's a size issue there, but agree the looms were shitty for a number of years. The modern ones are supposed to be better.
