I Know I have shared a lot lately which seems to irritate Some people
But any way
Here is another I am considering
I only Have 1 picture as of now
But belongs to a local guy C rider
It's a 2015 KX250F
He says it has around 100 hours
And needs a Steering stem Bearing
And the rear shock is currently Leaking ...
I'm pretty sure I can get it in my price Range
Of $2500 or less .
Any one know how much to
Fix the 2 issues ?
And how much I should expect to pay to
Have top end done just as preventive
Maintenance if I pay a local guy to do it ?

What could go wrong. Lol , 4 year old used 250f, quite a few hrs. Lol. Buy a new leftover 2017 rmz 250 $4900. Get a small.loan . Be done with it.

100 hrs on a 250f, you will be doing valves, crank, main bearings and top end. $2500 then another $1500 in parts and you will have a solid bike if you can do all the work. If not add another $1500 in labor and you are almost to the price of a new kx250f

I do agree the New ones for $5000 to $6000

I don't doubt you guys and I prob won't get it.
But a couple things go through my mind right now
1 have Been looking online mostly
Craigslist and Facebook every day
For a month and I Havent seen any blown up 250f's for sale
. It crossed my mind to purposely buy a blown up
One and get it fixed because then I would know it has no hours .
And #2
Crazy to me how close the price is between new and Used
Even 10 year old bikes people are asking $3000 for
And you can get New for around $5000
Its really pretty crazy
But I still dont have ,$5000 to spend lol

100 hrs isnt a lot depending on the rider. I had a 09 kx250f that i put 328 hrs on it befor i rebuilt the head.new piston every 50hr rebuilt crank every 100 hr. Didnt touch the valves after the first 10 until hour 328 when it zeroed out twice in a week. If they are willing to let you run it or put a track day on it to test it out for a price i would buy it.

Ive helped a few buddys pick up used bikes just gotta know what ur looking at or as everyone above has said you could end up upside down quick.

id buy it for 2k in a New York minute...$100-$125for complete shock rebuild and steering stem replacement,diy....another $140ish for piston and gaskets...miscellaneous other wear parts , brakes, tires, cables, clutch , grips, bearings $250. $2600 assuming you do the work yourself, which many people here could walk you thru some things that you aren't sure of. Sounds like you are on a budget so getting a fixer is a great idea imo. Buy a service manual, watch some YouTube and get to work. Eazy peazy....

Whatever your budget is, spend a fair bit less, as the bike will have problems that you will have to repair.

If you think you are going to get a used 250F four stroke for cheap AND it was maintained well, you are dreaming.

I know money is tight, especially when you have two babies to feed and provide for. Just a suggestion....can you work a part time job for a few months and save what you need to buy a new bike. I'm old, but one of the best times of my life was when I had to mow grass to get what I wanted. I'm not boasting about that at all, I was just kind of proud that I made it happen without asking my dad for money. Don't get in a hurry, there will still be good deals out there.

Sell the Suburban out right....no trade= more$$. Be patient. More advice from an old guy....If your credit is shot go to as many Banks as you can and ask to speak with the Pres or Vice Pres. Dress accordingly and explain that you would like to establish a relationship with that bank, ask for a small loan of $500.00-$1000.00, be persistent and someone will eventually help you. Don't be concerned about interest rates, just pay your loan on time, never a day late. I've jabbered enough, don't be afraid to pick up a part time job and family before motorcycles.

Tarz....don't be impatient. I've seen some of your threads , and I know you really , really want a bike , but listen to the guys above. Buying something new , or close to new is always going to be your best bet , especially a 250F. In fact , as far as used bikes go , the 450F's and 250 2 strokes would be the only bikes I would buy used. 125's and 250F's are just something I would consider new , or nothing. Keep saving man , because seriously , your wallet will thank you in the long run!

Only buy used 450f imo . Buy new 250f s and replace them every year . Jmo (I known people will get all pissed) only buy new Ktm s .huskis and kawi s .there great bikes for the first 100 hrs . Suzuki 450 are good if you can find a clean one just under the 100 hrs . Yamaha and Honda are bulitproof. Bar stay away from 13 crf. the 13 gave gearbox trouble ..an older 07 or 08 crf sounds like the perfect bike for you . If u can find one in good nick .

Ledger hits on some really good points. And I tell you what , if Tarz lived up this way I would give him a part time job , cash under the table.....I'm freakin' buried and could use the help.

There are clean low hour 250 four strokes out there, just wait tell the right one comes up. Always check for things like, the wear on the footpegs. Check under the frame for big scratches or dings, rubber under the fenders from bottoming out. Stay away from race bikes. Take the seat off, check how clean the air box is along with the filter. Excessive wear around the boot area on the plastics. Straight radiators. Check if the rims are true and spokes are tight. Compress the forks repeatedly and look for leaks( pull the dust seal down if possible).

You can find decent used bikes but they are hard to come by. I agree with everyone that you should save the money and buy new, but atleast if you check those things i listed you can tell if its been rode hard and put away wet. If it has more then 60ish hours get back in the truck and leave.

I got a kx250f 2015 just a few weeks ago with 35hrs on it with a lot of extras (10l motul motor oil, 4 air filters, 2 new rear tires, also tech 8 and a few other parts) with fresh service for only 3200 euros (~3800$). But I live in germany so the price is a little different here I would say.

Like MXb2 and a few others stated. Also You will know well maintained bike when you see them. There is a 13 KX250f on Pitracer.com classified section with 20 hours. That personally is what I would be after in your situation. Comes with Lots of extras. May be able to get it at a good price?

I See Quite a few nice ones in the $3800 Range
But its more than I have to spend right now
And it's getting so close to New RMZ for $4999
, I can Get The 2015 KX250F with more hours
I was planning to look at for $2200

At $2200 this is the lowest priced 2015 ,
I could probably buy it
Ride it for a month or two and easily sell it and get
My money Back as long as it dont blow up .
Which is a gamble but

My experience is don’t buy any used bike unless it’s very low hour, unmolested and owned by someone with OCD. I’ve regretted it every time. Even for any low hour bike I’d much rather get one that’s completely stock than littered with aftermarket junk, in most cases.

For a low price ?
Or a little Newer (2015)
Higher hour bike with efi
