Picked this up a few weeks ago for the purpose of weekend bike hauling. First time loading it up and wow! Who else is experiencing the joy of putting the bike in straight, tailgate up, just throw the stuff in there without packing? Anyone have a tool box and still have the tailgate up? Let's see em.
Looking at it I'm thinking I may have to build a few more bikes just so I can fill the bed.

Let y'all know where I'm coming from, had to learn to pack it in for a long time. 1-1/2 bikes, 2 stands, 2 chairs, tent, pit rug, toolbox, oils box, 2 gear boxes, cooler, and a fuel jug.

They're totally worth the pia that they are to park in a crowded parking lot (long bed crew cab anyhow). Sadly, I own a short bed now because my wife drives it during the week while I'm driving my work truck (reg cab 8' bed).

Bike has been replaced and the truck has been parked for almost 2 years now. Got a 03 Silverado with a long bed and stock height. Makes life so much easier lol

Don't have a pic with my bike in the back right now but they don't make them any longer than this! Its not a great truck for driving in the city as its loooooong and manual transmission but I'm not ever getting rid of this one!

Ah, yes. Congratulations to all that have a long bed. I have had one for about 14 + years. SO much easier to load a bike. I even upgraded to SuperCab and long bed instead of regular cab. I used to take two bikes to the races, race one in on class, the other in the other class, pop-up canopy, lawn chairs, cooler, ramps, stands, gear bag, helmet, boots, lunchbox, not have ANYTHING in the passenger seat. SO WONDERFUL!

Local and long distance haulers. Usually bikes are in the back of the Dodge for longer hauls. 1986 Chevy CUCV 1028 is one of my stable of K30's for local riding.

7.3 turbo diesel 75k miles on her!

So it loooks like even with a tool box you could get them in just by turning the front wheel to the center and still closing the tail gate. yours had that bar thing that's taking more room. I know it can be done with 6-1/2 foot bed and no tool box

Theres a 40 gallon fuel tank in the bed and the tool box. Plenty of room still.

Love the 8 footer!!! Pack in 2 mini bikes, my big bike and all gear/tools/cooler/water and then I look for other stuff to bring just because I still have room.

After 2 diesels you went with a gasser it looks like. What made you decide to switch? Been thinking about doing the same once I finally decide to part ways with my old 12v Cummins.

I've also had a 7.3, so make that 3. Lol.

Alot of consideration went into it and a lot more research. I tow my camper 5-7 times a year. The rest of the year it's a daily driver with alot of mixed driving. Right off the bat, $10,000 less is reason enough. Much cheaper oil changes. No DEF. No fuel filters. No diesel all over my hands when filling up. No additives. No freaking hassle. I wasn't about to speend 50k on a comparable truck to what I bought, then 2k + to delete it to get acceptable mileage, all while killing my factory warranty. I'm getting 13.5mpg. Itd take me years and years for mpg of a deleted diesel to make up for my little lower mpg. My wife wanted loaded, so I bought a lariat ultimate. It's sweet. I like it so much I'm contemplating trading in on the exact same thing but new body style.

Don't let the gas engine fool you into thinking they aren't good at towing. The only thing I had to get used to was higher RPMs. I was very used to low rpm of the diesel but the gas motor makes peak hp at 4500rpm. I think this truck tows my 31' camper just as well as my lifted duramax. The 6.2 is rated to tow 12,500 in most scenarios. Exactly the same as a 7.3 to put it in perspective.

If I had a 40' + 5th wheel, and pulled it all over, I'd definitely buy another diesel. But I don't, so I don't need it, and I'm way past the "cool" factor in life. I will be buying a 5th wheel toy hauler but I'm gonna stay around 10-11k and I'll pull it with my gas truck just fine. When I travel, I'm not racing to my destination.

Bottom line, if you NEED a hd truck but don't tow every day, there's no real reason to spend an extra 10k on atruck other than trying to be cool.

I wrote the 6.0 gm off quickly. Old n out dated. The 6.4 hemi and the 6.2 we're at the leader board. I chose Ford because the fit and finish seemed to be much better quality than the ram. I did like the motor though and it may have a hair more nuts than my 6.2, but I'd do it all over again the same way.
