If you currently have a steel frame YZ250, lets see em!!!!
This is my 3rd 04 YZ250. Wont be stupid enough to sell it this time.
It can just sit and collect dust if need be.

The bike I had racing moto back in the day, 1993 maybe(?) I forget. That one is long gone for me

Current bike, 2000 YZ250. Using that to race D6 hare scrambles.

Them is some bad ass rocking scooters. Pretty sure my 84 YZ was the last steel frame I owned, I guess.

In modern times what years are steel frame.

Thanks Billy

Anyone have any input on 04 vs aluminum frame YZ's? Been tossing around building a steel frame YZ myself, and curious what I should expect/look for?

I've only ridden a later year aluminum YZ, and I don't know if it was just the setup or if they're supposed to feel a little more cramped than say my last 2 strokes which were an 07 RM250/03 CR250r..

Bought it new back then and raced it for a few years.
Not been riddin in 14 years, still in very good condition tho.
Thought about selling it but people keep telling me not to do it.

I rode a ‘98 many years ago. I’ve not ridden either an 04 or an aluminium framed one.

What’s the fuss about? Why is the steel framer so good?
I had a 04 YZ250 back in 2004 and I remember it being so compliant everywhere. I could dump the clutch in the corners and the bike would just track so perfectly and hold its line. I have never felt so comfortable on a bike in 30 plus years of riding. Bike was completely stock. I was also 19 years old at the time so maybe that had something to do with it.

Fast forward to 2016 and I picked up a new YZ250 (aluminum frame obviously) and could never get as comfortable on it as I did with the 04 (steel framed) model. The bike was awesome but that cornering, compliance, and general ability to forgive mistakes was not on par with the 04.

This one went through identity issue's. Started life with a built 250 motor, then got a full build esr 345 motor, sss forks, updated swinger linkage and shock from newer 450... then it got a built big bore kx5 motor stuffed in it. Nasty!

This one only "needed a new top end". So yeah everything is new except the plastics (new rider on it) ufo restyle plastics and graphics will go on it after he gets the rookie tip overs done.

I will never grasp why people convert the plastics on these.

God, I wish bikes still looked like this. I hate y’all, I want to do a smoker project now 😤
