DC... great job with the Legends race. I think we can work with this idea and refine it even more. Here is my idea. DC, feel free to poach it.
1. Various teams agree to prep a race ready 2 smoker for a Legend they recruit in advance. Have the 125 smoker sitting under the team tent along with the Legend for that race. Provide the Legend promo pictures or posters to sign and have them participate with team signing.
2. Race 5 to 10 Legends in a "open practice" where they spin laps to put together the fastest time based on an average of their 2 fastest laps.
3. Have the fans participate in a 50/50 raffle for $1 or $5 per raffle ticket. Winning fan ticket gets 50% of the money and the other 50% to be distributed to group of Legends in the form of a race purse.
4. Run a handful of these Legends races at pre-decided rounds of the MX series and the team with the most Legend wins gets the Legends MX Team Championship win and MX Sports cuts a check to Asterick Medical in the Legends Team Champion's name.
BOOM... everyone wins!!

I just watched the Legends race and honestly it was cooler in concept than it was watching the racing. I would rather see a pack of hungry lions on 125s or these legends on 300cc two strokes.
Seeing the older guys out there but having the race not turn into just parade lapping around is going to be the hardest thing to solve going forward. Nobody want to embarrass or be embarrassed but the skill levels of retired riders vary by a lot.
Having said that Stanton wasn't the fastest, he still had the most style. Nobody rides a bike like him, sitting way back on the seat and making the bike go where he wants rather than him going where the bike wants. One of the most distinctive styles in MX history. I was happy to see it again and hope to see lots more legends in years to come.
1. Fans of the Legends will no doubt love seeing their past MX heroes rail the shit out of a smoker.
2. Legends don't want to be shown up by anyone past or current and riding a 125 smoker allows for them to ring the hell out of it, but also should close the gaps in timing among them and also not allow for their times to be compared to current pros which would only point out their loss of speed.
I say my idea is solid!
Here is my Legends 125 smoker wish list:
Kehoe (wearing all yellow retro O'Neal gear + yellow open face with blue Scott goggles and face mask!!)
Micky Dymond
Mark Barnett
Jeff Ward (Retro Sinsalo white + Open face w/ goggle nose guard / mouth protector combo)
Johnny O'Mara (Retro Answer + Open face combo)
Broc Glover (Retro pink JT gear)
and the all time capper....
Bob Hannah!!
The Shop
Let them ride what they want.
Make it an annual 3 race series where points are kept, and the winner gets his name on a golden expansion chamber...kind of how good does their trophys
1) More lead time so more legends can clear their schedules. The race was awesome, but it would have been more awesome with guys like MC and Bradshaw there.
2) Have Weege and Grant announce the broadcast. I didn't like hearing Lurch talk about something that was happening on the opposite side of the track without having the video cut to it.
Other than that, I loved it, and I hope it keeps getting bigger and better in the next few years.
These guys have had their time racing for championships and seriously, I good light hearted race that is more about getting to see the legends of the sport cut a few laps of a current national track on a current bike is awesome.
Seriously who would have really wanted to see RC on a 125 two stroke yesterday? I would much rather see him air out the same jumps the current pros were hitting like he was.
One other thing to think about is it is still the chance of injury to the riders. Whats the worst that can happen in legends golf or tennis compared with MX ?
Pit Row
15 or 20 minutes... People wanting to time them and everything else...
You want to make rules now? how about a pee test?
Just enjoy the legends race for what it is
There are guys that collect Vinyl records. I have "noine pieces of vinyl" myself.
Call me an idiot, but that's my .02
But I do think the gate should be somewhat full. Fly in some more big names who still occasionally ride. Ron Lechein, Barry Carsten, Chuck Sun... Who cares if some of them have gotten older and a little slower, people would still like to see them swing a leg over a bike again.
The jealousy on here regarding JT$ is entertaining.
