Which would you buy, and why? I know every situation is different, but I’m just curious which one others usually lean towards. Sometimes a used bike is a smoking deal, something they aren’t.

My current situation was between a leftover ‘18 350SXF and a used ‘18 350SXF.

New bike $8k otd and 3 hours away
Used bike 29 hours, $6,500, some extras such as levers, air filters, and couple other smaller things. 8 hours away.

Between the two, I would choose the new one. The peace of mind and "newness" for only $1,500 more and 5 hours closer would be worth it to me.

I would go leftover.. for only $1500 difference. you know everything about the motor.. if the motor grenades it could cost more than that to rebuild top and bottom end.

If the used bike had say 10hrs and was otherwise in flawless condition for $1500 cheaper you may have an actual decision to make. With almost 30hrs that’s what’s referred to in my book as a “No Brainer”

I agree that it's a no brainer for the leftover. The peace of mind is worth it, not to mention the 29 hours of wear on the used bike, which is not insignificant.

Notice I said it WAS my current situation. According to Vital, I made the right choice.

Leftover bike deals are the best

Used you are always taking a chance. But they may have more trick parts on it. New is new so your are starting fresh! But stock fresh. Hard to say. If the used bike has lots of trick parts & low hours I'd buy it (maybe). But if I'm already spending $8K (!) I'll just buy a new 2019 bike!

Used bike should be half price of new. Add on stuff doesn’t add on to the price either. Other than that, leftover all day long. Especially a high reviver like a 250 or 350 F. Smart choice!

Leftover unless you personally know and ride with the person you're buying from. There are good used sellers out there, but you're rolling the dice with a random.

Shoot, I've seen some very attractive low hour 2017/18 bikes with exhaust, wheels, etc listed for sale on here for several thousand less than the OTD price of the stock bike alone. As OCD as I am about maintenance, as long as I feel out the seller and get a good vibe on how they kept up with it - letting someone else lose their ass is the 'no brainier' to me

8k OTD for for a 18 350sx is a pretty smoking deal. Best any dealer in AZ is advertising right now is about $9000 OTD. I think you made the right choice! Congrats. I would love a new 350xcf... for $8K OTD i may pull the trigger! Where did you buy from if you dont mind me asking?

I have a 2017 KTM 350 because in Feb of 2017 I bought a 2016 KTM 350 for $6000 that needed work. I didn't do a good enough job looking the bike over, so I don't blame the seller but he did sell me a bike with a bad fuel pump. Valves on that thing were going to be $1300 to replace. Tires - 200. Fuel pump, labor, valve adjustment - $500.

Sold it for $6500 and bought a brand new 2017. Best decision ever.

Biggest drop in price new to used (my opinion):
250F
125/150SX
350F
450F
250SX
Barely used 250F makes more sense than a barely used 250 2T, if you follow/agree.

For that situation I'd go with the leftover. Love getting a new bike, knowing the entire history and setting it up just how you want.

On the flip side though I have bought a lot of used bikes, and when I do I go CHEAP, and by that I mean I get something beat up and under priced, usually pick it up in the fall and make it a winter project bike, mainly just because I enjoy rebuilding them.

But to each their own, good luck with the purchase!
