Leatt Helmet doesn't look good at this crash...

Brad Anderson crashed at Hawkstone Park and his Leatt Helmet got totally ripped in pieces. In the picture it looks like he's wearing a helmet without mouth piece... Don't want to throw them under the bus, but head protection is bit to important to not post this and sweep this under the carpet or sand.

That’s harsh hope bad brad is alright!

Let's see the crash that caused this before trying to act like the helmet is subpar....

I'd have to see some video of the crash before I'd pass judgement. If he got tangled up with the bike or that fence...

That helmet might have done it's job to the best of a helmet's abilities. Without seeing the crash, we don't know. That certainly doesn't look good for the Leatt lid though.

MX helmets have a hard job. They have to be forgiving enough to deal with very low speed tip overs, but also handle high speed rag dolls. As well as dealing with blunt object impact i.e. bikes and rocks. I've always wondered if something dynamic like D3O might not have a place in helmet technology.

Edited to add: I hope Mr. Anderson recovers well/quickly. That's a pretty brutal picture.

the scenario can be complicated and helmets sometimes show catastrophic damage. What if it didn't break away? What if his head was to the other side? What if that rock wasn't there?

vomiting equals disqualification.

Is that a compound fracture on his right arm as well? Wishing him a speedy recovery.

Chinbar crumple zone? To help with dissipation of forces?

Ooo. That elbow looks nasty JBecker. Didn’t see that.

Looks like the their cheapest helmet in the lineup, the 3.5. Don't see any of the traditional venting like in their premier helmets.

I was at the corner it happened on,Brad went high on berm,Beaton went low and took them both down,Bad went from 20ish mph to stopped,it was a big shock to me to see him laying there not moving mostly because he is well known in British mx as being a right hard bastard. The race was immediately stopped and medics were there straight away, the worst part was seeing how upset his mum was when she saw him.Maybe the helmet did it's job,but I wouldn't buy one after what is saw today.

OneWordResponseGuy is going to have a hay day with this one when he sees it....

Plastic helmet with large airholes just where is broken. Not sure why this level guy will run 100€ plastic helmet even he is sponsored by them. I would not buy one even their higher line.

Head protection is the most important thing if you ask me. So talking about is at least as important. Knowing that the Airoh helmet in America weights more because the European version doesn't get through the American safety tests and stuff like that is important. Idem with pictures like this, not?

2 completely different stories from eyewitnesses?

I know who's fibbing, and it ain't me,I've watched Brad race since he was a kid and seeing someone you feel you know without actually knowing them have a crash like today leaves a bad feeling in your head.

Both from the UK and both using their "real name" for usernames. Hopefully someone else can drop in with a video..
And hope Brad is doing ok.

No way this was worse than Peick having a 450 literally case his face.

I was just across from where it happened, , didnt see the crash but was told by 2 different people that it was a crash with Beaton on the exit of the turn coming out of the trees, and he faceplanted into the sand on the outside of the turn.

Its not a fast part of the track at all , and is usually very soft on the outside where they went down.

One eyewitness story has already been edited...seems we know which eyewitness was there.

Thats just blood from his facial injuries, which as far as i have been told, are a broken cheek/jaw and broken nose.

He was down a long time, and stabilised at the side of the track by the medics, who took good care of him.

Until footage emerges of what happened, its not easy to say what the severity of the impact was, but concensus of those that saw it was that it wasnt the outcome you would expect from this crash.

EDIT
Team saying after scans, he has only a broken nose but is very bashed about.

That is horrendous! Some may argue the helmet has done its job? Not too sure myself. Hate to see anyone go down but ando is one tough bastard! Did his helmet hit beatons rear wheel or sprocket? That’s the only thing I could think of how it would end like that. Surely it wouldn’t just snap off from impact at 20mph

2/17/2019 2:05 PM

For all you know, that helmet is supposed to do that. It makes you wonder if the chin bar didn't break, what else would've?

|

2/17/2019 2:23 PM

facebook comments ive read say the head went into a rear wheel. i would say any helmet taking a chin bar to a rear wheel wouldnt have a good outcome. lots of variables here

looks like leatts base model helmet, their high end helmets have the same tech as the fly formula

Would you also blame the helmet for what happened to Weston P?

Some crashes, suffice to say, just involve a lot and SOMETIMES you're going to the hospital no matter how much gear you have on.

I too would like to see the crash of this.

Saw Weston his crash in person, and no his Fly couldn't do a thing about it. If we wanna play the blame game then I blame Cedric Soubeyras JPM Suzuki's Bridgestone who fitted perfectly in the opening and destroyed Weston' face.

I wont wear a helmet where the face part is supposed to break off. F that.

Ive seen face parts broken and splintered from a face plant into rock hard dirt, face was fine.
