Are you guys running the plastic factory engine guard these bikes come with? First CRF I’ve had in a few years and I feel to properly clean the underside/frame cradle area, it really needs to be removed. Not the end of the world I guess but when you’re washing 3 bikes + gear at the end of a long moto day, it’s just another step in the process. Yes, I realize the potential is there to provide protection in certain rare instances but I’m not convinced the tradeoff is worth it for solely MX.

I’m considering removing it permanently along with the front disk guard. Thoughts/experiences?

I run a full cycra skid plate. It’s worth it. I’d rather spend the time to wash it then risk having something hitting the engine and causing more issues.

This, I always purchase a skidplate for my bikes.

I took the stock one off and realized I would rather have the protection than possibly have a ..2lb lighter/cleaner bike. It would have been nice if they had put a few more trail/wash holes in it but nothing stopping anyone from drilling some holes.

It’s only a couple bolts to drop it and clean underneath. Worth the extra insurance in my opinion

I run the WC aluminum one. And I remove it each wash. It takes 2 minutes to take off/ put on. The stock one is easier than this one.

I run the stock skid plate/engine guard and love it. Super nice having one that mounts up right to the frame. I only remove it to wash when I am doing an oil change after. Seems that the holes are just big enough to keep it remotely clean without removing it every wash. Saw some huge rocks on the track this weekend and it was nice just to know I had extra protection

Don't ever let facts get in the way of a great story

I run a cycra on my yz450. On muddy or sandy rides it fills up a bit. other then that I really only need to remove it to do oil changes. Most the time I can get in through the holes to blast dirt out

When I put a skid plate on, I make sure it has oil drain hole access or I drill a hole...I"m not taking my skid plate off every time I drain oil or wash my bike...

AXP makes a 8mm thick unit that is still very lightweight and protects the linkage and provides a glide plate for short landings.
