To win a national race, overall or just a Moto..
was it “jyd” Dowd?
Or best finish recently by a TRUE, (van driving, no support, pb and j eating, broke ass) privateer are the days of privateers having any chance of a top 10 gone??

Stank dog is the most recent that comes to mind... and he is 20-30... the driven to ride boys (Anderson and saye?) made a couple top 40’s
Their are Private teams and Privateers. Was Alessi on an MCR bike one year and won a national then awkwardly hugged Ryan Dungey for a bit to long? Not a privateer but a private team.
I can’t think of the last time a dude showed out of a van and landed a podium more recent than that
The story of your privateer Daytona win has been pretty well documented in the past, but was that the proudest moment of your career?
No—winning the first 125cc outdoor moto at Gainesville the week before was. I had trained my butt off all winter and worked so hard for the 1987 125cc nationals and really wanted to win ‘em. My goal was to go and dominate that first moto, and I did. I told my mechanic on the starting line that I was the fastest guy there and no one there could beat me. My proudest moment was maybe two or three laps from the end when my mechanic put out the pit board that
read "P1, +55 seconds."

Alldredge was also damn close on a ktm 250sx with a stock motor out the back of his pickup the past two weeks.
Guy Cooper was quite a journeyman before landing on Factory rosters.

From the outside it appears he had a lot of support from his family...wasn't wearing the same underwear three days in a row or scrapping pennies together to buy taco bell between races, but far from the factory treatment.
